Some homes just have a certain feel the kind that makes you take a breath and just look out the window for a minute to see what the trees are doing outside. That is what it was like walking into this four bedroom family home on York Valley Crescent right in the York Mills area of Toronto. You can actually hear birds out here. The street is quiet enough that sometimes you do not hear anything at all except maybe a few squirrels or the wind in the old hardwood trees behind the house.
Sometimes there is this idea that to get real peace and privacy you have to live way out of town but honestly this place proves otherwise. You are only around twenty minutes to downtown Toronto in the car but when you are standing in the backyard looking out at the woods it feels like you have your own piece of countryside. That is partly because all the land behind this house is protected government space so there will never be any rear neighbours. It is one of those little things that sort of takes the pressure off and lets you relax. There's all this space too. The whole property sits on over twenty six thousand square feet and the backyard just rolls gently down toward the forest. And if you are lucky sometimes you might spot deer early in the morning which almost makes you forget you are even in the city.
The house itself is solid and kind of classic. Full brick outside and all really well cared for. I noticed that everything from the way the garage doors open to the loft space upstairs just feels like it was looked after by folks who loved living here. There are four proper bedrooms. Not one of those cut up floor plans where you are trying to squeeze beds into strange shaped corners. Each room is bright and catches lots of daylight but not too much sun either so it never gets overheated. I actually stood by the window in the main bedroom for a bit and just watched how the trees make little patterns on the walls in the afternoon. It feels like a real family house. The basement is finished too so there's space for movie nights or a games room or even just storage if your family is anything like mine and seems to gather more and more stuff every year.
What you might really like is the study at the back of the house. It looks straight out into the woods so whether you are working from home or just reading on a rainy day you have total green views and no distractions. One of those spots where you might actually finish that book you have been meaning to read. Plus you have a proper two car garage and honestly there is parking for a whole bunch of visitors if you ever want to have gatherings. It always helps that the driveway is long enough that nobody has to play musical cars.
It is a family kind of neighbourhood. You will see kids scooting or biking sometimes after school. The parks and playgrounds are actually close enough to walk. There are a couple good coffee spots nearby plus some small restaurants and grocery stores that are more local feeling than chain. And you are only a few minutes on foot from the York Mills subway station if you want to take the train downtown or just avoid Toronto traffic altogether. Sometimes I think people do not realize how rare it is to get this much space and privacy and still pop out for a coffee or catch a show downtown that same night.
Now for someone thinking ahead the land size here is a big deal. More than half an acre. If you ever wanted to redevelop you could look at building a big custom house up to nine thousand square feet with your own ideas about a pool or a tennis court or whatever works for your own family. There are not many spots left in Toronto where you can do that.
In the end I think you can read all the details but the only way you will know how this place feels is to come visit.
