Some places stay with you long after you leave. I felt that when I walked into this villa on Crete&#039;s quieter side. It is a piece of the island that feels special as soon as you get near it. The bright white walls catch the sun in that way you only really see in the Mediterranean and the roof has those deep clay tiles that remind you where you are. The thing that really sticks with me about this villa is how every part of it makes the most of its spot by the sea. I kept wanting to stand by the tall windows or just drift outside every few minutes because the views are the sort that slow you right down. You catch the light off the water at sunset and there&#039;s this quietness except for maybe a boat going by in the distance. Even the birds seem relaxed out here. You get over 9000 feet of space and you actually feel it. The living areas open up in a way that makes people want to gather together, maybe with the doors open and that salt air coming through. Sometimes I find big homes can feel a little museum-like—not here. There is a warmth to the furniture and just enough softness in the colors.
