You come off the main road and roll gently along this long private driveway with ironwood trees overhead and that is where the mood starts to shift. Even the air feels a bit different here maybe it is all the old trees or maybe it is just the space around you but the city and the airport and everything else noisy seem very far away. The villa is quite special. It was first built back in the late nineteen thirties and you really feel the sense of Sri Lankan heritage when you walk inside. There is nothing overly polished or artificial about it. The place has some history to it. British families lived here in the past sometimes even diplomats and once a Hollywood actress stayed for months at a stretch which honestly still surprises me and I have seen a lot of homes in Sri Lanka.
