Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Turns 10
The emirate of Abu Dhabi has been a hive of activity this weekend, particularly Yas Island, where the 10th annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race is scheduled to be held tomorrow. Acting as the finale of the Formula One season for 2018, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will bring together the likes of longtime rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and rising favourite Max Verstappen for one of the biggest events of the year. Practice races have been on since Friday, building up the excitement for Sunday’s race.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which made its debut in the Formula 1 calendar in 2009, is held at the world-class Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island. The Grand Prix experience began on Thursday evening in the lead-up to the main event with a series of musical performances taking place at the du Arena and the island’s popular nightclubs Iris and MAD. The talent lined up for the weekend includes contemporary idols such as Post Malone, Sam Smith and The Weeknd, with Guns N’ Roses slated to play at the after-race concert on Sunday.
As the last race of the racing season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes place after the Formula 1 Drivers’ and Constructors’ races, which have already guaranteed Hamilton first place with Vettel as a very likely second. This takes a bit off pressure off the racers, who will still be competing for third place, but can mostly race purely for the thrill of the sport. It also shifts focus off the known favourites and brings newer faces into the spotlight. Most notable among the new faces is max Verstappen, the young Dutchman who first took to the track in 2015 at the age of 17 and has become a bit of a sensation since. In fact, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will have one area of the Marina Grandstand dedicated to Verstappen, where his fans will be able to cheer him on while sporting Dutch colours.

Yas Marina Circuit is one of the longest Formula One tracks in the world, with a length of 5.5 km and a total of 21 turns. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke, the famous German engineer who has designed several Formula One racetracks, including the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore and the Shanghai International Circuit. Surrounded by hotels and leisure destinations and adjoined by the gorgeous Yas Marina, the circuit offers a unique waterfront racing experience. Preparations for the Abu Dhabi were made over the course of the past week, with the track getting touches of the signature ‘Yas Blue’ paint and over two acres of seasonal flowers being planted around the venue.
While the race is the highlight of the weekend, Yas Island offers much more to enjoy even after the event is over. It is a key entertainment hub and is home to the Ferrari World theme park, the newly opened Warner Brothers theme park, the immense Yas Mall, Yas Links Golf Club and so much more. A short drive will take you to the nearby Saadiyat Island, where the Louvre Abu Dhabi can be found. The main Abu Dhabi city is just half an hour away, and Dubai is about an hour’s drive from the island.

We are looking forward to an exciting showdown on the track tomorrow. If you want to live closer to where the Grand Prix action is or to invest in the magnificent capital of the United Arab Emirates, get in touch with us by calling our office or enquiring on our website.
