Community Guide: Jumeira Bay Island
You can never have enough coastline in Dubai, quite literally. The city contains some of the finest beaches in the world, and its love for the waterfront lifestyle is so great that entirely new islands have been built to add even more stretches of coast to its topography. Among these beautiful man-made wonders is Jumeira Bay Island, which extends out from the heart of Dubai’s famous Jumeirah district.
The island follows in the Dubai tradition of crafting unique luxury destinations. Not only is it a part of a very upscale neighbourhood, it is also home to the incredible Bulgari Resort & Residences.
About the Island
Jumeira Bay is spread across an area of roughly 6 million square feet and like its not-so-distant neighbour Pearl Jumeirah, it is defined by a unique shape - that of an immense seahorse. The shape gives the island a snaking design that makes it seem even larger than it is, and allows for some dramatic views to be captured no matter which part of the island you’re standing on.
The ‘tail’ of the seahorse, which is closest to the coastline, is formed by the Bulgari Resort & Residences. A gated villa project known as Villa Amalfi is being developed along the body of the island, and the ‘head’ contains independent villa plots.
Bulgari Resort & Residences
The name Bulgari is synonymous with luxury, craftsmanship and elegance. For over a century, the Italian brand has crafted some of the finest fashion accessories, including watches, jewellery and leather goods. At the start of the 21st century, Bulgari officially launched its hospitality division with the first Bulgari Hotel in Milan. In the span of less than two decades, only six Bulgari properties have been built, each in a renowned global city. The Bulgari Resort & Residences in Dubai is the sixth member of this very elite club, and is also the first Bulgari property in the Middle East.
The resort complex, which was designed by Milan-based firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, takes its design inspiration from a Mediterranean fishing village, putting a contemporary twist on rustic design elements. The exterior facade features awnings modeled after coral, and a combination of wood and stone finishes create a beautiful play of contrasts throughout the interiors.
There are four main components to the project:
The Bulgari Resort
A stunning waterfront hotel with 101 rooms and suites, plus an exquisite collection of 19 furnished pool villas and the ultra exclusive Bulgari Villa. Each of the suites features gorgeous contemporary design with golden, earthy tones. The villas offer you additional services including your own private butler and private chef.
Guests can enjoy the very best of international cuisine, including modern Italian fare by Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito and a unique Omakase experience at Japanese restaurant Hoseki. The Bulgari Spa puts a modern design spin on ancient Roman baths to rejuvenate mind and body, while The Workshop Gymnasium fulfills all of one’s fitness needs. There are meeting and events rooms available for booking, and there is a special kids’ club known as the Little Gems Club.
The Bulgari Residences
The residential component is made up of 165 beautifully crafted one to three-bedroom apartments, a limited selection of three and four-bedroom lofts (known as the Bulgari Marina Lofts) and 8 magnificent four-bedroom penthouses overlooking the sea, plus 15 exclusive mansions in three to six-bedroom layouts with landscaped gardens and private pools.
Each residence embodies modern European style with wood flooring and minimal accents, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views over the Bulgari Yacht Marina, the Arabian Sea and the stunning Dubai skyline.
The Bulgari Yacht Club
The yacht club is meant to be enjoyed by guests and residents alike. A beautiful two-storey structure that sits near the tip of the island, it contains a signature restaurant that specialises in Italian seafood, a top-floor cigar lounge enjoying incredible sea views, an outdoor pool and bar, a fitness centre and another Little Gems Club for children.
The Bulgari Marina
The heart of the resort, the U-shaped marina offers 46 berths that can accommodate yachts ranging from 10 to 40 metres in length. The marina offers a variety of services, from maintenance to on-board dining and spa options, as well as a club membership that provides access to the Yacht Club and discounts on resort services.
Stretching along the centre of Jumeira Bay, this gated townhouse community is currently under development. Inspired by Italy’s famous Amalfi Coast, Villa Amalfi will provide a vibrant island living experience. The entire community is being designed to be pedestrian-friendly, dotted with green spaces and walking trails. It will feature a limited collection of 64 contemporary homes in three to five-bedroom layouts, with views of greenery or the sea. Villa Amalfi will be centre on a lovely park and will also have a residents-only clubhouse with fitness and wellness facilities.
Location is another highlight of Jumeirah Bay, with a specially built 300-metre roadway leading directly into the famous Jumeirah district. Residents are within a 15-minute drive from some of the most exciting dining options (including several homegrown brands) and boutique retail options in the city, including shopping centres such as J3 Mall, Mercato Mall and Sunset Mall.
The island is flanked by two popular beachfront destinations - La Mer and Kite Beach - and is quite close to the community of City Walk, itself another popular leisure attraction, as well as the dynamic Downtown district.
Nearby healthcare facilities include Emirates Hospital, Belhoul European Hospital and Medcare. Schools such as Kings’ Al Barsha and Swiss International Scientific School are easily accessible.
