When I first stepped into this one bedroom apartment at Mercer House in Uptown Dubai, I caught myself just stopping for a bit and looking out at the city. The way light fills the room here is different, maybe because you can see those sweeping views and you do actually get a sense of space even in a busy neighbourhood like Jumeirah Lake Towers.

What surprised me most is how quiet it can be up here. You are surrounded by a lively city, but inside it is peaceful and uncluttered. The apartment itself feels thoughtfully put together. The living area flows right into the kitchen, which has this real sense that you would cook for more than just yourself sometimes. The fits and finishes are what you would expect in Dubai, but not just for show. Everything from the countertops to the fixtures looks sharp but still feels like you could just make yourself a coffee in the morning without worrying. Speaking of mornings, you get this sunlight streaming in that makes you want to pull up a chair right by the window, just to see what the city is up to before diving into the day.

There is something about the bedroom too. It is not gigantic but it is roomy enough so you do not feel boxed in. Sometimes you can spot folks heading out for a jog on the landscaped paths in the morning or coming back from a swim at the infinity pool. There are even proper fitness centres here, so you do not need to keep that gym membership unless you want to mix things up. And if you are the social sort, the lounges downstairs feel comfortable without being stiff. You can sit around, maybe meet neighbours or just catch up on a bit of reading if that is your thing.

One of my favourite parts about this area of Dubai is how connected you feel. You are close to Uptown Dubai's coolest shops and little cafes that keep popping up. You can walk out and within a few minutes, find yourself trying a new bakery or sitting with a coffee while the city just passes by. And if you are in the mood for something bigger, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa are not far at all. Dubai's metro is close enough that you probably will use it more than you think, especially once the weekend traffic picks up.

You'll notice little things around the building too, like kids playing in the gardens or people taking their dogs out for a walk in the evening. There's always security around but it never feels overbearing, so you just feel secure rather than watched or anything like that. Parking is easy to deal with, which is honestly a relief in this part of town. Even guests won't have trouble.

Community does not always get talked about in Dubai apartments, but Mercer House gives you a little bit of that too. Sometimes it is seeing a neighbour at the coffee shop downstairs, sometimes it is just knowing you can come home and relax without the usual city buzz blasting through your windows.
