Dubai is synonymous with unique and eye-catching architecture, as seen in everything from high-rise apartment buildings to five-star hotels. Here are a few of our favorites from around the city.

1.  Burj Khalifa

It should be no surprise that the world’s tallest building is the first one on our list. Standing a staggering 830 meters high, the Burj Khalifa is the centerpiece of Dubai’s bustling Downtown district.

2.  Cayan Tower

Cayan Tower, formerly known as Infinity Tower, is a standout in the skyline of Dubai Marina thanks to its highly unusual spiraling design that offsets its uppermost and lowermost floors by 90 degrees.

3.  The Opus

The only Dubai project by late architectural visionary Dame Zaha Hadid, The Opus in Business Bay is a remarkable cube-shaped structure with a void carved into its centre, framing unique panoramas of the city.

4.  JW Marriott Marquis

Another icon on Business Bay, the JW Marriott Marquis is the world’s tallest hotel, divided into two 72-storey towers with crown-like spires inspired by the shape of the date palm. It also boasts a beautiful location by the Dubai Canal.

5.  Princess Tower

Topped by an ornate dome, this Dubai Marina skyscraper stands over 410 meters tall and bears the double distinction of being the second tallest building in Dubai and the second tallest residential building in the world.

6.  Dubai Frame

One of Dubai’s latest architectural icons, the Dubai Frame comprises two 150-meter tall towers connected by a museum at the bottom and an observation deck at the top, resulting in a structure that ‘frames’ Dubai’s older districts on one side and New Dubai on the other.

7.  Dubai Opera

Dubai’s culture and entertainment masterpiece, the Dubai Opera is far from the tallest building on the list. It makes up for its lack of height, however, with a stunning design inspired by the UAE’s traditional ‘dhow’ sailing vessels.

8.  Index Tower

Located in DIFC, Index Tower isn’t as impressive for its exterior design as for the cleverness of its environmental design. The tower is located directly along Dubai’s East-West axis, shading residences on all sides of the building from the sun’s glare and substantially reducing energy costs used for air conditioning.
