Some homes surprise you the second you walk in. This two bedroom apartment at Avani Palm View in Dubai Media City did that for me the first time I saw it. Something about the way the light moves through the open space just puts you at ease. You walk in and almost feel like the city noise drops away for a while even though you are right in the middle of things. I actually paused by the big windows facing the sea and just watched a little boat crossing between the Palm and Dubai Marina. If you have ever wanted a view that always gives you something to look at even when you are just zoning out with a coffee this one is it.

The whole apartment has this modern style that feels inviting not cold. There is open plan living in the main area and honestly there is so much room you can actually spread out. It is unfurnished so you get to pick a couch you really like or put your mark on it and make it feel like home straight away. I stood in the kitchen for a while and what stood out is how you could really cook here. The appliances are all built in and modern but more than that there is just enough space you do not feel cramped even if you are making a full dinner. If you ever just want to sprawl out on the floor with takeout and a movie it works for that just as well.

Both bedrooms are set away a bit from the main space so you have some quiet if you need to crash early and there is even a maid's room which is handy if you like things organised or maybe you want an extra storage space for bikes or golf clubs. The bathrooms are done out with simple but nice finishes. I always feel that good water pressure and a hot shower make a place feel right and you get that here.

What is kind of special is being on the residential side of Avani Palm View. It is not just an apartment building it feels almost like a hotel where you actually live. You can use the same gym and pool as the hotel guests but sometimes you get your own quieter space by the residents' pool. I actually sat there for a bit in the afternoon and there were just a couple of people reading or dipping their feet in. If you want maid service you just ask and it is sorted for you twice a week. Plus there is a 24 hour concierge and it makes life a bit easier if you have deliveries coming or if you forget your keys, which I do a lot.

The area itself is one of those rare spots where you are kind of close to everything but still able to wind down at the end of the day. Palm Jumeirah is just over there so if you want brunch with friends at The Pointe or Friday dinner at one of those beach hotels it is a quick trip. Dubai Marina has all the restaurants and shops you could ask for and honestly sometimes I just walk over for a coffee when I need to clear my head. The Metro and the tram are both near enough if you do not want to drive and schools are in easy reach. Kids scooter along the sidewalk in the evenings and there is always someone jogging by the sea first thing in the morning.
