Port de La Mer, La Mer, Jumeirah
Sometimes you walk into a place and it just slows you down a little bit. This one bedroom apartment in Port De La Mer, right in Jumeirah One, really does that for me. I stopped for a second near the entry and there was a bit of sunlight coming through the balcony doors and all I could think was, this really could be somewhere you actually want to come home to after a long day. You can just see the care that's gone into every bit of it. It comes fully furnished which, honestly, takes away a whole lot of stress if you do not want to be running around furniture shops or struggling to fit a sofa through the door. The kitchen is right there as you walk in and I found myself thinking, I could actually cook here instead of just reheating takeaway. There are granite countertops, everything feels clean and solid, and you have stainless steel appliances that are right where they should be. So if you like to try a new recipe or even just stick a pizza in the oven, it feels easy.
The living and dining space is open plan so even if you have friends over or just want to chill with a good show, you will not feel cramped. It is surprising how big 782 square feet actually feels here. The bedroom has built in closets, which are so useful if you do not want to mess about with those clunky wardrobes you get in some places. The window coverings are custom, so you can get just the right amount of light in the morning. Sometimes you'll notice the breeze from the balcony if you leave the door slightly open. The bathroom has both a bathtub and a walk in shower, which is one of those things you do not think about until you've used it once and then you want it everywhere.
The balcony itself feels bigger than I expected. You could put a couple of chairs and a little table out there. I stood there for a few minutes and just watched a few birds flying around and listened to the quiet. You forget sometimes you're still in Dubai. Plus, the air conditioning is just about perfect throughout the apartment. Not too cold, no strange hot spots, it just works.
The thing that really stands out is what's right outside your door. You have private beach access, which pretty much settles any weekend plans. Sometimes you see families out on the terraces or kids playing in the parks nearby. The swimming pool here has a sort of relaxed vibe, you can hear soft chatter and see people just floating in the water on a hot afternoon. If you feel like getting a bit of exercise the fitness facilities are right there too, and you do not have to cross a crazy road to get to them. Sometimes you just want to be able to go for a swim or use the gym without planning your whole day around it.
If you like good coffee, you really do not have to go far. There are cafes and shops within walking distance. Grocery shopping is easy here too. You have Spinneys and Big Basket just down the road which makes a difference when you suddenly remember you forgot to buy bread. There are also restaurants around for those nights you are not in the mood to cook, plus a few little retail shops where you always end up finding something that you did not know you needed.
Port De La Mer itself feels different to the rest of the city. There is a relaxed vibe, you see people walking and taking their time. The sea breeze is kind of always there. The best part, honestly, is how you can be in the middle of Jumeirah but still feel a little bit hidden away. No endless traffic noise, no feeling boxed in. Even the walk to the front door is kind of quiet.
If you ever wondered what living in a beachfront apartment in Dubai might actually feel like this could be it. The only way to know for sure is to come see it for yourself.
