The Corniche, South Bank
Some homes just give you that feeling the second you open the door. That happened to me when I walked into this three bedroom apartment at The Corniche right along London's South Bank. Honestly, I just wanted to stand by the window for a few minutes and watch the traffic slide over the River Thames. You get this amazing sweep of the city laid out right past your own balconies and terrace, so there's always something happening outside. But inside, it is just a different world. You feel the quiet as soon as you step in, and you almost want to breathe a little slower because of it.
I know everyone says Foster and Partners do great design but when you are standing here, you actually feel what that means. The living room curves in a way that nothing feels sharp or harsh and it almost gives this gentle, tucked in sort of vibe. You'll notice the light is different too. It changes all day because the building follows the river instead of just pushing up against it. Mornings feel bright and open, afternoons settle into a softer kind of light, and if you are anything like me, you end up having more coffee than you planned just looking out at the London Eye spinning away or the Houses of Parliament off to the side. I actually caught a sunset over The Shard from the principal bedroom terrace once and honestly, you just want to stay out there all evening, watching as the city comes alive with lights.
The apartment's layout really works whether it is just you, your family, or if you have friends visiting and you need some space for everyone to feel at home. Each bedroom is en suite which, honestly, just makes everything easier, whether you have guests over or you are just rushing to get ready for work. The wardrobes are actually spacious enough so you do not need to juggle all your things when the seasons change. No more stashing boxes under beds or cramming heavy coats where they do not fit. The principal bedroom has a walk in wardrobe that actually saves you the stress when getting dressed. The bathrooms are finished in real stone, I tapped it just to check, and they feel like something you would expect at a high end spa, not just your average city apartment. You will probably want to linger in there rather than rush through your morning.
I spend a lot of time in kitchens and this is one of those spaces where you actually want to cook real meals. The appliances are all Miele or Siemens so everything feels reliable. The worktop feels expensive but is still easy to wipe up after you have chopped things or spilled your coffee, which happens to me more than I like to admit. You are never really cut off from the rest of the apartment while you are here. The kitchen opens right to the living area so if you are hosting, you will not miss out on any of the conversation or just the feel of people being around.
There is a balcony just off the living space and I swear, sometimes you just want to step out and listen to the city hum below. You see runners go by along the embankment or the odd boat drifting past. Out from the principal bedroom, the terrace is just waiting for slow weekend mornings when you want coffee with a view over The Shard. And if you are into fitness, or just want to unwind, the Corniche's pool and gym are bright and clean with proper equipment and not a hotel vibe at all. Everything is designed for actual residents, not just visitors passing through. Plus, the spa downstairs is quiet and you always walk out feeling just a bit better.
Upstairs is the Skyline Club Lounge up on the nineteenth floor. Nothing really tops sitting way above the river looking out over all of London with a drink in hand. Wall to wall glass, so nothing takes away from the view.
The location is a real part of the lifestyle here. Being right on the South Bank means you are close to Westminster, Buckingham Palace, and you are never far from a good coffee. In the evenings, you see families and kids out, people just enjoying the river when the city lights are coming up.
The only real way to know if it suits is to come and see it yourself. I am happy to answer anything you are wondering or show you around whenever it works for you. At LuxuryProperty.com we just want to make the process as comfortable and personal as possible, so get in touch if you are curious.
