Dusit Thani, Balapitiya
Some homes really do make you pause for a second when you walk in. This one bedroom apartment in Beachfront Balapitiya made me do exactly that. You open the door and it just feels easy. There is something about the light coming in and the sound in the distance from the waves that helps you settle in right away. It is part of the Dusit Thani community here on Sri Lanka's west coast so everything is calm and well thought out but not at all fussy. Even with all the luxury touches around you still end up walking around barefoot most of the time. Sometimes you see neighbors with beach towels over their shoulders or someone heading back from yoga in the mornings. I watched a couple of kids chasing each other down to the sand one afternoon and almost called it a day myself.
The apartment is actually pretty spacious for a one bedroom and has that kind of open layout that makes you actually want to spend time here. It does not feel like one of those places you use just to sleep and then head out. The kitchen and living room flow together in the easiest way and honestly I think you will find yourself eating outside on the verandah a lot because those sea views are something else. I ended up standing there just leaning on the rail and watching seabirds move over the water while the sky went a little golden. If you are into cooking, the kitchen really feels like somewhere you might enjoy making something from scratch. It just does not have that hotel vibe. There is space for a proper breakfast table and a big coffee machine if you feel like it. The built in finishes are mostly wood and these soft, natural shades that just put you at ease. I keep thinking you can really tell they wanted it to feel like a home, not just a place to rent for the holidays.
You will notice the bedroom even before you get to the rest because it is actually big. The colors they picked are all these quiet, muted tones and with the wooden features around the whole place just stays chill. I kept thinking you could open up a book on the bed with the window open and probably end up not reading at all because you would end up listening to the sound of the sea instead. The bathroom is not far and there is more space than you would expect for a one bedroom spot. It is filled with light and has a few details like extra shelves here and there. It makes life pretty straightforward and you do not have to work around things the way you sometimes do in small apartments.
Being in this Dusit Thani development in Balapitiya, you get more than just the apartment. There is a rooftop infinity pool I tried once in the morning and honestly it might have been one of the quietest moments in ages. Someone else was swimming laps and everything was still pretty misty with the ocean nearby. The on site spa is tucked away under the trees with these little private gardens and you forget how close you are to everything else. If you ever need to really switch off, you have got everything right here. They have several restaurants and the mix is fun, from classic Thai food to some really solid Sri Lankan dishes so you do not feel like you are stuck having the same thing every night. Even the events area felt way more like a lounge than an official ballroom which is rare.
What I think you will really feel here is just a slower pace. The apartment gives you direct access to four private beaches and that is not something you get everywhere. The neighbors know each other in a friendly way but nobody is nosy. The local coffee shop is a wander away and most mornings there is always someone reading the paper out front. If you want to head into Balapitiya town for the market or groceries it is easy. You can spend almost all day on your verandah, lose track of your phone and just watch the sea. Sure, as an investment, serviced residences at Dusit Thani in Balapitiya check every box, especially with sea views and full beachfront access, but really what you are buying is the mood.
Best way to know for sure is to come and see it for yourself. Reach out if you want to look around or just have a few questions. At LuxuryProperty.com we try to make sure the next move you make here in Sri Lanka feels as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
