When I first walked in I just sort of stayed by the front door for a bit longer than usual because the light coming in across the marble floor catches your attention straightaway. You look out and there is Downtown Dubai right in front of you but up here the city feels far away and almost quiet. The view is not something you get used to no matter how many times you see it. You have the Burj Khalifa practically at eye level with the whole Downtown skyline stretched out past your windows. I have to admit I just wandered over to those big glass panels and got lost for a few minutes just watching the city move along. On the nineteenth floor you hear almost nothing of the traffic below.

Living up here feels easy and calm. Soft warm colours all through the space so nothing is ever too much or flashy. The ceilings are surprisingly high. Over four metres everywhere you go which means everything just breathes better and you never feel boxed in. When the afternoon sun comes in the light seems to change every room and you get these long soft shadows gliding across the walls and floor. I actually stepped out onto the terrace for a while and it is probably one of my favourite things about this penthouse. It is just you and the breeze and the quiet. Even with all those towers and fountains right below there are times when you hear only the wind or maybe the sound of a few birds skimming past. It almost takes you out of the city for a moment.

About the kitchen I will say this much you can tell it is made for real cooking not just for looks. Everything is top tier from SieMatic cabinetry to Miele appliances. Storage is not a problem at all and the fridge is ready for a proper grocery stock up. If you are cooking breakfast for a crowd or just putting together a meal for yourself you have the room to move and nothing feels cramped. The dining space drifts right into the lounge. It never gets too formal unless you want it to be and it always feels like you could just stop for a quick tea or hang out after a meal.

Each of the four bedrooms has what you need for comfort and privacy. Every bedroom comes with its own bathroom. The master feels like an apartment on its own to be honest. It has a quiet terrace all to itself with that same unbeatable Downtown view. Mornings are something else with the Burj glowing just outside. All the fixtures are Kohler so every part of the bathroom feels solid and well built. I even spent some time just at the sink noticing how all the details add up. There are big closets and plenty of space to put your things away which is actually something I get asked a lot about. You will notice it feels like you can close off the world when you want to.

Parking is honestly the least of your worries here. You get three proper parking spots of your own. There is even a designated driver room downstairs which you do not always see in Dubai. Coming in and out is simple and easy. There is a real sense of welcome too because someone is basically always at the door to help.

The building itself has a real boutique feeling because there are only twenty eight homes. People nod or say good morning which you do not see everywhere. Downstairs there is actual concierge service and if you need it there is valet. Sometimes I would see kids heading to the rooftop pool which is huge with lots of space for swimming or just taking it slow while you look out over Downtown. Residents also get access to a fitness and wellness center so you never really need to leave unless you want to.

When you do step outside you are just minutes from everything Downtown Dubai has to offer. The Dubai Mall is right there. Coffee shops everywhere and new restaurants all the time. I have often just seen people enjoying quiet walks by the fountains in the evenings. The Opera is close too. Even on those busy weekends getting home always feels easy.

To be honest this four bedroom penthouse at The 118 Downtown is one of those rare homes where the rush of the city feels far for a bit.
