Villa Versilia, Lucca
Some homes really do have their own soul the minute you arrive and I felt that right away at Villa Versilia. It is this five bedroom villa in Lucca that manages to be both relaxed and quietly elegant at the same time. Walking up the little garden path you can almost smell the sea breeze drifting from somewhere not far off and you realise you are in a place where days feel slower and hours stretch in a good way. Sunlight shifts through the trees in the morning and you get those lovely shadows dancing across the grass. The air here is clear enough that even with your eyes closed you know you are in Italy. Sometimes you catch the sound of birds, other times it is just that peaceful hush you only get outside the city.
What is nice about Villa Versilia is that it lets you be close to everything that makes this region famous. Forte dei Marmi is just down the road so if you feel like stopping at a bakery for warm pastries or spending the afternoon on a golden beach it is all right there. You get the best of both worlds here—quiet tucked away living and easy access to the buzzing coastal lifestyle whenever you like. I have to give a shout to the plot itself because these gardens in Lucca really do mean something special. Here you have a landscaped outdoor space that changes with the season—flowers and hedges come alive in spring and when the sun rises on a summer morning I watched steam roll off the private pool it feels like you have your own little slice of holiday every day. If you like dining outdoors or just reading under a gazebo there is a perfect spot for that too. The evenings sometimes end with you just listening to the breeze and not even thought of your phone.
Inside the villa is genuine in its layout and feel—not a showpiece so much as a home that wants you to live real life in it. The main floor has this wide open living area and on some afternoons you can hear laughter and the sound of someone in the kitchen with doors open to the garden. The kitchen is fully equipped and is really a working kitchen, somewhere you can imagine rolling out pasta dough instead of just reheating takeaways. It just has that Italian warmth. There is a formal dining space for those weekend feasts and if you ever need more space for movie nights or family visits there are two living rooms so everyone has their own corner. You can host friends and never feel like you are on top of each other.
Go up the stairs and every bedroom feels light and peaceful. There are three with their own bathrooms and every single one opens out onto a terrace which, believe me, makes morning coffee better every time. The master suite is up on the top floor—walk down a long hallway and you get a feeling like you are in a private retreat. The en suite bathroom is simple and classic Italian and there is always that easy access to another terrace if you need some air.
Basements can be dark but not here. You have an extra bedroom for guests or maybe an older child who wants their own space. The laundry room is right where you want it no running up and down for chores. One of my favourite spots is the tavern room it is cool even during Italian summers and just the right place for relaxing or games. When afternoon sunlight hits the wood finishes inside the house—doors cupboards shutters—it is something worth seeing.
This villa does not scream luxury but lets you feel it with soft understated colours throughout. Two security cameras do their job quietly at the entrance and the cobbled path in front is charming. Sometimes you will see neighbours cycling past and you remember why people fall in love with life in Lucca.
If you are searching for a five bedroom villa with landscaped gardens private pool generous living spaces and proper Italian character in Lucca then Villa Versilia could be the one. But nothing really replaces stepping inside and letting the space speak to you. If you want to walk through or just chat about life here I am always happy to connect.
