Villa Taddei, Florence
Sometimes you just feel it as soon as you walk up the path to a home. Villa Taddei in Florence is exactly like that. Maybe it is something about touching the rough stone wall or hearing your shoes crunch on the old garden path before you even get to the front door. This eight bedroom villa has seen a lot of years go by quietly. Built right around a watchtower from way back in the twelfth century, you can still spot bits of that original tower peeking through the walls. I just like how the history is not hidden here. It is a part of everyday life inside the house. Honestly, there is nothing pretentious about it. There is just a sense that every single room has had stories told in it. I can imagine long afternoons by the pool or winter evenings by one of the old fireplaces with everyone just gathered together telling stories.
When you step through the main entrance, you get that feeling right away. Those high ceilings and classic Tuscan beams just open everything up. The living and dining area gives you space to stretch out or just wander around in socks while the sunlight comes pouring in. It is the kind of light that makes you want to stay a little longer. I actually found myself wandering over to the garden doors and just looking outside for a while. The view is the kind you do not get tired of. The landscape really does open up in ways you would not expect. Sometimes you catch a glimpse of the towers of San Gimignano beyond the green Tuscan hills. On a clear day, the sky almost feels too big. And the kitchen is not just for show. It is the kind of kitchen that you really want to cook in. The oven feels like it is there to be used for real, not just for a tray of reheated food. The freezer has clearly seen a few busy family holidays. There is even a proper dishwasher tucked in. Sometimes you almost forget about all the history around you and start thinking of what you might cook for friends and family.
The best thing about Villa Taddei is how easy it feels to switch between big gatherings and those quiet mornings when you just do not want to see anyone for a while. There are fireplaces tucked into several rooms so you can always find a warm spot when the nights get cold. The second lounge is something special too. There is a lovely library right there, plus a good old billiards table. Sometimes you just want to pull up a chair, grab a book, and lose track of time with the light coming in through the tall windows. When I was standing by one of those windows I could actually hear the birds over the trees outside. If you are after a bit of calm, this place honestly gives you that.
Upstairs you get that hush that old homes seem to hold onto. There are four double bedrooms, all generous with space, and two single bedrooms, each with their own en suite. If you have guests, they can have all the privacy they want. One of the living rooms up here is large enough that you can imagine holding a big family gathering or just having a quiet morning coffee while the sun comes in. There is even another double bedroom in the annex right by the pool with its own bathroom so visitors can roll out of bed and straight into the garden.
Step outside to the gardens and the air changes a bit. You get the smell of earth and wildflowers with every step. The pool is just far enough from the main house that it feels private but you can still hear laughter if people are swimming. There is a built in barbecue outside where you just want to set up a long lunch under the trees. Sometimes you see the local kids biking down the road and the only thing you notice is the wind in the grass.
Living here puts you in the heart of Tuscany but you are not far from anything really. Barberino Val D'Elsa is close when you want to grab a coffee or some fresh bread in the morning. Certaldo is just up the road. For city life, Florence is easy to reach without much fuss. Siena and Volterra are also an easy drive. So you get this peaceful countryside feeling but you do not have to give up on the rest of Tuscany.
With fifty five thousand square feet inside and a huge garden to explore, Villa Taddei really is a piece of Florence's history being lived every day. The only real way to know if it fits is to come and see it for yourself. If it feels like it might be right or if you just want to take a walk through and imagine, reach out any time. There is no rush. At LuxuryProperty.com, we just want finding your Florence villa to feel as comfortable and easy as it should.
