Bal Harbour, Miami, Florida
Some places just have a kind of hush when you arrive. I walked up to this seven bedroom home at 116 Bal Bay Drive and before I even stepped inside, you could hear the sound of the water more than the road. People always talk about privacy in Miami but here it actually means something. You come through those big gates at Bal Harbour Village and you realise very quickly how secure and tucked away this area is. No wandering traffic and honestly barely a car except people who live here. Sometimes you hear kids further down laughing or see someone paddleboarding in Biscayne Bay but mostly it is just peaceful.
Inside the house, it is big, more than eight thousand feet of living space and it sort of wraps around you. You can feel how this place was built for real lives. The living area opens up with those classic Mediterranean arches and you just want to stop and take in the view out to the water. I stood by those windows and watched a couple of birds balancing on a dock pole for a while. You also get this easy flow from indoors to outdoors. The terrace is where I would probably spend a good chunk of time, just sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning, maybe watching boats gliding by or thinking about taking a kayak out later.
The kitchen is not just made to look good in photos. There's enough room to cook something big for family or friends, and windows that let in plenty of light. You are not staring at a wall. It connects right out to where you might grill on weekends. If you have people over, you will notice it just feels comfortable to hang out in, everyone sort of circles back toward the view. Each of the seven bedrooms has space for your own style, and a lot of them face the water too, so waking up here is something you actually start to look forward to. The master suite has this feeling of quiet luxury, not just big but honestly relaxing, and when you open the curtains in the morning it is just blue sky and water right there.
You have more than ninety feet of water frontage which is a big deal if you have a boat or even if you just like watching them drift by. Direct access to Biscayne Bay and then on to the Atlantic is pretty rare in Miami. Haulover Inlet is really close so if you are thinking about spontaneous weekends out on the water, it is so much easier here than you would expect. People talk about Florida living, but here at Bal Harbour it becomes obvious what that really means. You can walk to the beach just as easily as you can head over to the shops. That stretch of sand is quiet, mostly locals, and usually you might just see a couple of friends chatting in the late sun. Bal Harbour Shops is never far if you want something a bit more lively, maybe some designer shopping, dinner out, or just a morning coffee at one of those places where you end up chatting a little too long.
Even though this is a grand villa, with seven bedrooms and big open spaces, it does not feel cold or unmanageable. It is inviting. And you never feel like your neighbours are right on top of you. I lingered on the back patio for ten minutes just watching the breeze in the trees. There was no rush to get back in the car. People here take things slower.
You could read about this place a hundred times but honestly, the only way to know if it feels right is to come stand here and look out at the water for yourself.
