Villa Belvedere, Florence
Some homes just have that sense of history you can almost feel in your bones. Villa Belvedere in the rolling hills above Florence is one of those places. I found myself slowing my steps on the gravel driveway surrounded by that deep green you only see in Tuscany. Between the fresh cut grass smell and the old stone walls honestly you get a bit of that wow feeling right from the start. This is a place that has stood quietly since the thirteenth century and if you listen long enough you can almost imagine what these stones have seen. There is a certain hush to the air up here even though Florence is actually quite close. You just hear birds and sometimes the distant whirr of someone pruning their olive groves.
The estate sits on about seven hectares and honestly when you walk outside you are just surrounded by space. Trees everywhere and a kind of garden that feels like it wants you to bring a book and stay out there for hours. I noticed little lizards sunning themselves and it reminded me of holidays where you actually have nowhere urgent to be. It feels easy here. The views are open and just keep going. You actually get these stretches of green that lead right up to the horizon with no interruption.
Inside is where the real Tuscan feeling sits. Those old, slightly bumpy cotto tiles underfoot cool down the rooms a bit and it is a kind of chill that feels right once the sun is out. The first section of this villa spreads over two wide levels. There is a generous living space that sort of invites you to sit by the fireplace that was already burning logs back in the fifteen hundreds. You can picture everybody gathering around in the colder evenings sharing stories or just relaxing. The kitchen is honestly the heart of the home here. Not just for show but actually ready for a noisy, happy pasta night. Sometimes the windows are open and you get a whiff of rosemary outside. This part of the house holds two cozy bedrooms and a couple of simple but welcoming bathrooms. There is plenty of those practical spaces too like a laundry area, a pantry, and a quiet part where you can just get on with life.
The old stone stairs have that gentle dip in the middle that only comes with age. Upstairs is where family spaces merge under high ceilings. You will find three more bedrooms on this level with the main suite having its own wardrobe and a private bathroom. The other two share a perfectly serviceable bathroom and each bedroom seems to catch a better view the higher up you go. Sometimes I just stopped and leaned on the window ledge for a few extra minutes.
On the other half of Villa Belvedere, there is another rhythm. These rooms are laid out over three floors so there is plenty of space for everyone to find their own quiet corner. The double living room here makes you want to invite neighbors over for a late afternoon chat with a bottle of local wine. There is a big dining room which could easily host a group for a proper Florentine meal or just a simple pizza night. The kitchen on this side is also very usable, country style and warm. You get the sense of real cooking happening.
Up the sturdy stone staircase is a landing bathed in natural light. The master bedroom has its own attached study perfect if you like to write or just need somewhere peaceful to work. Another bedroom and bathroom are just across and I spotted a space already set up as a library or home office. There is even a separate little apartment for staff or when friends stay longer.
Keep climbing up and you come to several more bedrooms and a relaxed sitting area. The best surprise is the little tower room at the very top. Spiral stairs take you up and when you look out all across the Tuscan hills all the way to Florence in the distance it just brings a smile.
It is a big villa with ten bedrooms altogether but it never feels overwhelming. There is space for messy summer lunches in the garden and evenings when you hear children playing or cyclists heading past. The gardens are not overdone. They look like someone cares but not obsessively so. Sometimes you feel like you could just stay here and let the seasons pass by.
At about four point two million AED Villa Belvedere is something rare in Florence with all this land and those open landscape views. The only way to see if it fits is to come experience it yourself.
