Villa with Private Pool in Utopia

Some places just have that holiday feeling even before you step in. This two bedroom villa at Utopia Maikhao in Phuket really does that. I was there just after lunchtime and the sun was coming through the trees and honestly it felt so calm you barely felt like checking your phone at all. You can really hear the breeze and even a little bit of ocean if you stand outside on the back terrace. 

The villa is part of Utopia Maikhao resort along the Thai coast so it gives you that tucked away feeling but you are only a quick five minute drive from Phuket International Airport. Sometimes you see old friends or couples pulling up with suitcases and the porters are always smiling. It is one of those places where the whole world seems happy to slow down and just notice where they are. The neighbourhood has a bunch of laid back restaurants close by so dinner is easy. There is even a little supermarket in the resort just for the little everyday things you forget.

Inside the home you walk into a living room that feels much bigger than you expect. The space just opens up and you will probably find yourself picturing where you would put your books or your favourite chair. The kitchen is semi open which I actually love because it means you are part of any conversation while you cook. It is not one of those kitchens that looks untouched. Here you might really cook a Thai curry with someone or chop fruit for breakfast after a swim. The dining area sits right in the middle and feels made for long evenings and catching up.

The back terrace is really something. I spent a few minutes just watching the colours change in the pool as the light shifted. The whole pool runs almost the full width of the villa. You could do laps in the morning or just float for a bit after a day at Mai Khao Beach. There is an outdoor shower that for some reason always makes people smile. I think it is the holiday vibe you get from just rinsing off under the trees with the birds making noise nearby. And honestly if you are the type who ends up having friends over there is more than enough room here plus the layout is all open so everyone ends up out back chatting into the night.

Upstairs the two bedrooms both have their own bathrooms so you will not have to share if you do not want to. You wake up and the first thing you see is so much green. Trees all around you. Sometimes you can even catch birds darting past. Plenty of built in storage so you are not running out of space for things and the rooms just feel easy somehow. You can tell straight away that the place is designed for real living not just holidays. 

And life at Utopia Maikhao comes with all the add ons you would hope. On top of your own pool you have the resort pool with a bar right there for a lazy afternoon. There is a wellness centre and a spa plus a kids club if you ever have little ones over. Honestly the spa smells amazing all day and there are always people heading in with towels and happy faces. There is a shuttle so you can get to the airport in minutes so visiting friends or family is actually simple. Security is always there but never in your face. The reception team somehow knows everyone by name and will help out with just about anything.

One extra you will probably not find anywhere else is access to any Utopia Hotel for forty days a year for free. So if you feel like exploring another part of Thailand or just switching things up a bit you have that too.

Phuket is one of those places where life feels easy but still full of things to discover. I always notice how people here take time. Wander down to Mai Khao Beach and you will see kids flying kites and sometimes families having little picnics by the water. It is never crowded but always friendly.
