Some homes just have a certain feel as soon as you step inside. This nine bedroom villa on Gin Lane in Southampton, right here in the Hamptons, pretty much does exactly that. Maybe it is the sound of gravel under your tires as you pull into the drive or that quiet feeling once you stand in the middle of so much green space—over two acres and all of it feels worlds away from the busier side of New York. The house still looks like it belongs to another time but honestly in a good way. That white wood exterior with the pitched roofs and the classic semi detached garage it almost feels like you are rolling up to a place you visited as a kid. Built back in the late seventies but cared for all the time since.
When you actually walk inside you just stop for a second. There is this living room that feels much larger than any photo can show you. The ceilings go up and up. Full wall windows bring the outside right in and the sunlight just tumbles across the floors early in the morning. Nothing fussy here, just a few splashes of color against soft tones, plus some of the most interesting modern lights. Someone really designed this room to feel simple but sort of grand at the same time.
You pass through and the living room merges into a formal dining area, no walls cutting things off. If you picture a family dinner or late lunch with friends, everyone is sitting at this polished white table with black chairs. Believe me, you will be distracted by the garden views through the glass as soon as you sit down. It's honestly the kind of place where the food becomes almost a side note compared to just looking out.
I wandered into the kitchen and I remember running my hand along the counters. It feels like a kitchen for real life, not some showroom you would never use. Everything opens right up to the courtyard terrace and outside there is so much space to drift from one spot to the next. Sometimes in summer you might cook with the windows open and the smell of fresh cut grass coming in. Libraries and little tucked away reading spaces are here too, plus a study and a media room. All these corners for different people to peel off and do their own thing.
The bedrooms are kind of spread out so if you have lots of guests or family it just feels easy. Two totally separate guest suites and three more en suite bedrooms, then of course the master suite which is tucked away complete with walk in closet and quietly grand gold lights right above the bed. I liked how the French doors in the master open up so you can walk right outside first thing in the morning. Again, standing out back with just sky and trees and birds you almost forget your phone.
The outside spaces stick with you. There is a really long pool out in the courtyard. I sat down by the edge for awhile when I visited and you could hear nothing but a bit of wind, sometimes kids biking in the distance, now and then tennis balls thumping. That is because tucked just off to the west is the tennis court, ready for early morning rallies or late afternoon games. What makes it better is, once you are done you can just walk right over to the pool cabana and cool down or read. You see neighbors sometimes walking dogs or out for a jog but mostly it is peace and green and blue sky.
The location on Gin Lane is classic Southampton, and you are still never too far from the small coffee shops and local bakeries. The Hamptons lifestyle is all about space and taking things a little slower and this house fits right in. I think it is a place where you only realize how comfortable you feel after a few minutes of just being there.
The only way to know if it feels right is to come see it. If you have questions or just want to walk through reach out any time. At LuxuryProperty.com we try to make your next move feel as comfortable as possible.
