Stellar Four-Bedroom Apartment at The Westly, Manhattan

Some homes just feel like they have a real character the moment you step inside and this four bedroom apartment at The Westly in Manhattan is exactly that. I remember opening the front door and just taking a breath because there is a calm sense about it even though you're right in the middle of New York. The whole place is set up so you can take in the city but have your own quiet pocket too. It really is a different kind of apartment living.

The Westly itself is something you do not see every day in New York. ODA Architecture went with these bold shapes and big glass windows. It kind of sticks out from all the older classic buildings on the street but in a good way. The first time I looked up at it from outside it looked almost futuristic in a place that is usually all about tradition. Even the entryway of the building feels different. Instead of that usual old Manhattan lobby, you get warm light and clean open spaces. It actually makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in.

Now inside the apartment you will find an open kitchen that just blends into the living space. I liked that you could talk to friends on the couch but still keep an eye on something simmering on the stove. It is the sort of kitchen you would actually want to cook in not just order takeout every night. The floor to ceiling windows wrap around the place so there is always sunlight streaming in even on a rainy New York day. Sometimes you walk over to the glass and just end up watching the traffic and people outside for a while. It is hard not to.

There are four bedrooms which is honestly rare for this part of Manhattan. The primary suite has its own walk in closet which is just about perfect if you have always wanted enough room for your clothes and shoes. The ensuite bathroom has a big soaking tub and when the sun sets it sort of glows in there. The other bedrooms are set away a little so if you have kids or guests everyone has a bit of their own space. Also these rooms do not feel boxed in. I stood by the window in one of them and you really can see far across the city rooftops. You can even spot the rooftop pool from up above if you look out at the right angle.

And the building itself has touches you do not normally get. That rooftop pool is one of them. I only saw it at sunset once but the sky just goes orange and pink and you feel like you have your own secret space right on top of the city. The residents lounge is quiet enough for working but you will also see people coming and going with coffee and sometimes even small kids headed to school in the morning. It's the kind of place where even with all the amenities like the gym and pool you still just feel at home. There's a nice rhythm here. The Westly manages to feel modern and stylish but not cold. Some new builds get a little too perfect but here it is more comfortable. You feel looked after.

Life in Manhattan is all about getting out and about and honestly you cannot get a much better spot than The Westly. Central Park is just a short stroll if you ever want a bit of green or to breathe in some fresh air. The coffee shop on the corner is never far and if you are into galleries or music you will always have somewhere new to go. It never gets boring.
