Some homes really do make you pause when you walk in. This full floor four bedroom apartment at 135 West 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan had that effect on me. It is not just about the address although being right where Broadway meets Fifth Avenue with Central Park close by is a real treat. There is something about the feel as soon as you step off the elevator straight into your living room. I found myself slowing down and letting all that light in this space actually work its magic.
With walls of glass on almost every side you do not just get views you get light all through the day. The Eastern and Southern exposures both have their own energy and honestly you kind of forget you are even in the city at times. Everything feels open clean easy. I stood by the windows for a while and just watched the city down below kind of doing its thing. It is the kind of place where you might not rush out for every meal. The kitchen actually feels like somewhere you would really cook not just heat something up quick. There is this long slab of Calacatta marble that catches the sun in the morning and the Dada cabinets from Italy have a simple polish that just works. Plus all the appliances are Miele so you can really make a mess in there and not worry about anything.
The living and dining area is wide open so whatever you do with furniture it ends up feeling social. I noticed there is even a wet bar hidden off to the side. A gas fireplace and a quiet spot for reading in the library section. Someone really thought about how people move around a space here. You are not squeezed or pushed into corners. If you feel like getting out of the way you can just grab your coffee and step out onto the private terrace off the master bedroom. That space gets the first touches of sun in the morning and sometimes you can actually hear city birds if you listen carefully. The bedroom is more than just big it is calm. There are two full bathrooms up here with a freestanding soaking tub you will actually want to take time for. And if closets are your thing you do not have to worry here either. Walk right through them and you will see what I mean.
Each of the other three bedrooms in this Manhattan apartment has its own bathroom. When you walk into those spaces you get a hit of that fresh marble on the floors and windows for real light. It just feels easy for anyone who stays. I think even guests would be happy to lay low for a bit. If you are ever in need of a break or want to get a sweat in the building's gym is as good as anything in the city. There is a full length pool and even a golf simulator tucked somewhere downstairs which by the way I tried for fun. The spa feels peaceful and I have seen kids laughing their way into the playroom sometimes when I visit.
You will also notice the concierge is there every hour of every day and they are real people who remember your name and what you like. One of the best parts actually is how you are set right in the middle of New York Midtown but sound still feels far away once you are in your own home. Pick up a coffee down the block head to Central Park or see a show just minutes from your front door. You kind of get spoiled honestly.
There is a lot to take in here and it is not always words that do the place justice. The best way to know if it fits is just to walk through it and let it settle in.
