Damac Heights, Dubai Marina
Some places feel like they already know you, or maybe you just fit right in the second you step inside. That is really what happened the first time I walked into this two bedroom apartment at Damac Heights in Dubai Marina. The funny part is I almost forgot I came for work and just ended up hanging around by the windows. There is something about those marina views, especially at the end of the day when the water goes darker and the lights begin to come on below. It almost tricks your mind into slowing down for a minute even if you are coming from a full on day.
This apartment is on the larger side which you feel straight away. The main living space stays bright pretty much all day because of these wide floor to ceiling windows. Sometimes you catch a few seagulls flapping past. The lounge connects easily to the kitchen so you are not tucked away cooking and missing out on whatever is happening in the living room. If you actually enjoy cooking for real this kitchen makes it easy to spread out and not feel cramped. There is room for all your usual groceries plus some extra gadgets if you are that kind of person. The marble countertop looks solid and actually feels cool to the touch, and you'll see it reflects the light in a way that makes you just want to set up your morning coffee spot right there.
Now, since it is unfurnished you can kind of close your eyes and picture your own stuff here, or maybe new start fresh if that is what you are after. The bedrooms have the same kind of vast windows so if you wake up early you get that soft morning sun sneaking through before the city gets loud. Closet space is generous, no awkward corners, so you can tuck things away and keep it simple. The bathrooms have a bit of a spa feel, not over the top, just neat and comfortable enough for those longer showers after the gym or a swim.
Speaking of swimming, Damac Heights is one of those buildings that actually takes amenities seriously. The pool stays temperature controlled so you do not freeze in winter or melt in August heat. There is a proper gym that does not feel cramped and actually has enough equipment so you do not always have to wait your turn. Sometimes you see a few residents using the outdoor barbeque area at sunset, and the juice bar is right there so you do not have to go far after a workout. There is also a games room and what they call an exclusive residents lounge where a lot of people seem to end up on weekend afternoons. It has this relaxed, lived in vibe. You'll also notice staff keep the common spaces spotless without being in your face.
Dubai Marina itself is always alive but this spot feels tucked away just enough. You can reach the cafes and even a shop for groceries in under five minutes. For the days when work calls or a trip to the airport comes up, the metro station is close, and you are not far from business centres. I have seen families biking by in the evening, and once, I watched an older guy fishing off the promenade. It feels safe, open, friendly during the day or night.
Honestly, for the rent and the size, apartments like this do not show up every week. You have space to stretch out, a view that keeps changing with the time of day, and a building where you can just live without overthinking things. Some places you get the sense you might only stay a year. Here, you could easily settle in for longer.
