Some homes just kind of stop you at the door. That was my first feeling when I went into this four bedroom villa at The Sanctuary in Mohammed Bin Rashid City. You feel it before you spot anything specific. It is the hush from the surrounding trees and the way the light hits the main living area in late afternoon that makes you want to just slow down and stay.

Inside, it honestly spreads out in a way that feels comfortable but never overwhelming. With nearly eight thousand built up area, and then almost as much again just in the garden outside, there is so much room for family or friends to visit and nobody ever really feels crowded. Walk past the entry and you get a view of the garden through big glass sliding doors. Many villas look out onto gardens, but here it is more like the garden blends into the living space. The sound from the community is gentle, mostly leaves and a few children biking past in the distance.

The neighborhood shows off in subtle ways. There are these little pocket seating areas and a wide open plaza where people actually hang out after work. Evenings feel safe and unhurried. Sometimes if you stroll, you will see someone walking a dog by the special dog park they built in just for residents. Parking is easy and tucked away, which means the flow through the roads stays relaxed, even on weekends.

Living in The Sanctuary means everything is kind of close at hand but you do not get that busy city feeling around your own home. Meydan Racecourse is nearby if you like the buzz of the races. Airports are easy for travel, and shops and schools are not far when you need them, but you feel tucked away from the rush. Friends tell me they head downtown two or three times a week but are always relieved to come back and feel the green and the calm.
