If golf is your thing, Jumeirah Golf Estates offers a lower rate for residents so you can get into the swing of it pretty easily. The schools are nearby and the City Centre MeAisem mall is just a short drive, plus the rest of Dubai is surprisingly accessible. You might see families out with bikes in the evenings or someone heading down to grab a coffee. It feels like its own small community even if it is in the middle of Dubai.
