Some places just slow you down the second you open the door. This one bedroom apartment at La Cote in Port de La Mer is definitely like that. When I first walked in, I just wanted to look out at the water for a bit. There is something about the way the balcony stretches out from the living room that makes you want to take your coffee outside every morning and watch the day start over the marina. You get these clear panoramic views of the waterfront so sometimes you almost forget you are in Dubai at all. It actually feels a lot more like a little Mediterranean town than some big city.
People always ask about the vibe in Jumeirah and honestly around here it is pretty relaxed. You hear the sound of water and you see boats coming in and out. Sometimes you catch families walking by on the boardwalk and kids racing ahead to check out the beach. There are even times in the evening when everything goes quiet except for someone having a laugh in one of the little cafes under the building. The way La Cote has been designed at Port de La Mer makes it feel like its own hideaway in the city. It is built low, small clusters grouped around the yacht marina, and actually you never have to go far for anything. I noticed people heading out for pastries in the morning and stopping by the shops in their sandals during the afternoons. When the weather cools down you might almost forget your phone and just walk the promenade all the way along to Laguna Waterpark or the restaurants lining the shore.
Inside the apartment you will see how the open plan living, dining and kitchen space just flows together. It is not stiff or overly formal. The kitchen is modern enough for real cooking but does not feel intimidating if you are just heating up something quick after a swim. Light comes in from the balcony so even standing at the counter you can see slivers of blue water outside. The bedroom feels calm and tucked away and is just the right size for starting the day slowly, thick curtains if you want to hide from the morning sun or leave them open and watch boats drift past. Plus there is a bathroom actually made for real use with plenty of space and a little laundry area tucked away so you are not dealing with piles everywhere.
With a built up area of 798 square feet, it is just enough space that it does not overwhelm or feel empty. For someone looking at a Dubai pied a terre or an easygoing home base in a new community it just works. And the best thing is the community really does have everything. There are so many cafes and shops between the buildings at Port de La Mer that you almost want to try a different spot every weekend. Plus the beach is close. You could wander down barefoot or head over to the boardwalk a few minutes away. Logistics are easy too. The main road connects you to the rest of Jumeirah and into the city so heading to work or grabbing dinner anywhere is pretty simple.
Some apartments feel formal and polished but this one actually feels like somewhere you could live your real life. Host a few friends for coffee or bring home groceries and cook something special. The crowd in La Mer is pretty diverse too so you always see a mix of people around. If you are looking for a home that actually gives you space to breathe but keeps you close to the fun, I just think it ticks a lot of boxes. The view alone is worth spending a little extra time every evening just sitting outside.
Of course words and pictures only go so far. The only real way to know if it feels right is to come and see it in person.
