Some places in Downtown Dubai just put you at ease from the second you walk in. This one bedroom apartment at South Ridge sort of does that. It is on one of the quieter stretches actually so if you are like me and sometimes need a break from too much noise outside your window you might appreciate that right away. There is something about the building that just feels steady and welcoming. South Ridge has always had a bit of a reputation for being a community where people actually live and settle in rather than just pass through for a week or two so from my first visit it just gave me that feeling that people take their time here.

Now stepping inside the apartment you get a gentle amount of natural light coming in. It is not the kind that is too bright or makes you squint but it is enough that you catch yourself looking around at the details. The open plan living space makes it pretty easy to move around. You might picture yourself setting up a work spot by the window while still having room for an actual sofa where you can relax. I stopped by for a bit and stood by the balcony doors. When you open them you can feel the air change. The balcony is surprisingly generous for a place right in the centre of the city. If you like your coffee in the morning or just want to wind down as evening arrives that spot kind of draws you out for those quiet moments. You get a lovely view out over Downtown especially when the city settles down in the evenings.

The kitchen here is semi open which I actually like. It is really well finished with granite counters. You can tell it was made for real use not just to look nice in photos. I could easily see someone cooking proper meals here and not just heating up something quick. Plus all the fittings feel clean and kept up so if you are someone who takes cooking seriously or just likes things working right you will probably notice that right away.

The bathroom is honestly a bit of a treat too. Everything about it just feels neat and tidy. There is enough space to move without bumping into things and the fittings feel solid. The bedroom itself has this easy comfort about it. You can really tell that the layout was thought out. You also get built in wardrobes which makes storing everything you need pretty easy without needing extra furniture.

One of the small things I noticed was how the apartment does not echo as much as others you find downtown. Maybe it is the way the ceilings are or just the layout but either way it feels a bit more homely. Of course there is reserved basement parking. And honestly I have never struggled to find visitor parking here either which says a lot for this part of Dubai.

Location is one of the big reasons people love South Ridge. You just grab your keys and you can walk to Dubai Mall if you feel like it. Souk Al Bahar is close too for when you want something a little different at dinner time. You have got Burj Khalifa right there and you are never far from the famous Dubai Fountain so evenings can feel pretty special when you step out. On weekends you will often see families heading to Burj Park which is close enough to make part of your routine. Sometimes people are jogging there at sunset or you will spot kids with their bikes.

Honestly the place just has that feeling of being at home even before you put your own touch on it. You can just see yourself settling in right away.
