Tenuta La Favola, Florence
Some places catch you off guard in the best way. I remember the first time I walked through the gates of Tenuta La Favola in the hills near Florence. Something about the air feels different out here, fresher maybe, like you could just let out a big breath and never really worry about picking your phone back up. You can smell the grass and the olive trees before you even see them and if the wind is just right, you catch a little note of wine resting somewhere on the breeze. Sometimes you will hear the bees late in the day and it just seems like they are busy making things right.
This private estate sits right in the heart of that classic Chianti landscape everybody dreams about when they talk about living in Tuscany. You have these open fields and rows of grapevines stretching out in every direction. It is actually a proper vineyard and olive grove so it is not just about looking at this postcard view but being able to taste what comes from it. I leaned on a fence for a while just watching the light slide along the leaves you can start to forget the city even exists. You get all of that plus eighty hectares which is something you do not often find near Florence. About twenty two hectares are used for agriculture so you have space to grow, space to walk, even space to start your own little vineyard dream if you feel like it. Pouring your own olive oil on bread straight from your kitchen it has its own sort of magic and here you could do that every day.
Now the main villa just feels like everything you hope for in an old Italian home but it is not stuffy or delicate or anything like that. There are old bricks and bits of stone everywhere but it is really just warm and lived in. Sunlight comes in at all times of day and sometimes you get that golden finish over the terra cotta walls. I think mornings are best here with that bright light coming through and a cup of coffee in your hand. Kitchens in places like this do not always seem real sometimes they just look pretty but never get used. Here though it is the sort of kitchen you could imagine real family dinners happening or teaching someone your favorite pasta recipe. You can stand at the stove and still chat with friends in the dining area. And if you feel like stepping out you only have to open the doors and find yourself on this terrace where the whole panorama hits you at once. Evenings are special sometimes the sunset lights up the hills and you just sit on the railing in total quiet except maybe for a bird or two.
Space is never a problem here. The main house is big but not showy with bedrooms that invite you to just curl up with a book or daydream out the window. I noticed soft throws folded on the chairs and the kind of desk where you might start a journal or write a letter home. The guesthouses all have their own personality. Some are tucked in with a bit more privacy. All are comfortable if you have friends or family staying. Staff have their own living spaces too which makes day to day life much easier but you would barely notice since it is so thoughtfully arranged.
Outdoors the pool kind of surprises you. It is close to the villa but set apart just enough that you can swim in peace or just float and look up at the sky. The gardens are full of places to sit and you might find yourself wandering along a little path with a coffee and nowhere to be. The views are impossible to ignore. Sometimes it is hard to even take a photo that does them justice. On quieter nights when the wind comes through the cypress trees you can hear nothing else.
You are only about half an hour from Florence by car. That means all the city's art and food is just close enough to reach without giving up the quiet life. Out here though at Tenuta La Favola you get this lovely sense that there is actually time to do things slowly and well. Whether that is wine making taking care of an olive grove or starting your own family rituals it is really up to you.
I always tell people to come see a place for themselves because there is no other way to know if it feels right. Walk the gardens lean on the old railings talk a while and see how it all settles with you. If you have questions or want to hear more just reach out any time. At LuxuryProperty.com I just want your next step to feel as calm and right as it should be. Sometimes the only way to really know is to slow down and see it for yourself.
