Some places in Dubai Marina just have a different sort of calm. I got that right away walking into this one bedroom apartment at Ocean Heights. It sits high up so you actually see more sky than people and honestly the first thing I did was step onto the balcony. It is a big balcony too and it kind of follows you from the living room to the bedroom which means wherever you are inside you have this steady light streaming in. I hung by the railing for a bit. You can look out across the green of Emirates Golf Club or maybe find yourself just watching the city wake up below you if you are the early morning type.

Inside just feels easy. The living area is open and bright and there is no fussiness at all. It is fully furnished so even if you have just a suitcase you are covered. The couches are big enough to stretch out on and there is a glass dining table that is actually usable. I kept thinking this is one of those rare places where you would actually want to cook. The kitchen does not try to be a posh showroom. It comes with everything laid out just right. You have a proper oven and stove so you can do more than just toast bread. There is a fridge that is ready for a midnight snack run. And someone thought to put in an espresso machine next to the toaster which I really appreciated. There is also a dishwasher so you do not need to argue about who is doing dishes if you have guests.

Through to the bedroom it is set up in a way that feels private but not boxed in. There is a queen size bed which just looks made for Sunday morning lazy breakfasts. There are two nightstands with space for a book and your phone and a big wardrobe that will swallow up quite a bit. I noticed the mirror and thought about how it catches the light in the morning. The en suite bathroom is right there so you are not doing any awkward walking through the flat in a towel.

The building itself is one of the best known in this area and you really remember why when you get to see the facilities. There is a pool area for grown ups who just want a quiet swim but kids have their own pool and play space too. There is even a BBQ spot which actually gets used. I think people living here just get together and share food sometimes. What really stood out to me was the spa. It is not just a small room with a massage table. They have gone all in so it feels like you are sneaking away for an afternoon somewhere special even if you do not leave home.

Living at Ocean Heights in Dubai Marina means there is honestly something for every sort of person. You can walk to the Marina Walk and get a flat white nearly any time of day. You have the beach on one side for a swim before work or just a barefoot stroll at sunset. If you like sport there are bikes everywhere and you will see runners early in the mornings cooling off by the water. And at night the lights out here just make the whole neighbourhood feel pretty alive. It is not noisy though. Even up on this floor it feels like you could just turn off your phone and forget the city sometimes.
