Some homes pull you in quietly before you even realize it. Villa Chianti Sunset in Florence does exactly that. I can't really describe it any other way. The first time I wandered up the garden path here, the light was just starting to go gold behind the olive trees, and you really feel the countryside. Not in an old postcard way but in that unmistakable breath you take where the city noise is gone and you can almost taste the green in the air. You get this mix of soft quiet and the faint hum of someone starting dinner nearby. It is a seven bedroom villa, but honestly, it feels more like a big family hug than anything grand.
The main thing about Villa Chianti Sunset is how real it feels. The stonework at the entrance, the little beds of rosemary and sage, it all kind of sneaks up on you. You would never tell from the outside how much space is here. Almost seven thousand square feet of built up area and you do feel that when you walk through the living rooms or stand up in one of the bedrooms looking over the hills. Each of the seven bedrooms has its own spot of morning or evening light and there is always a soft breeze if you open the shutters even just a crack. Two of those bedrooms have their own bathrooms and the others share a big family sized one, which makes things easy if you have guests or kids running around.
You will pick up on the old Tuscany details everywhere. There are those classic terracotta floors underfoot which, honestly, just get better with age. The ceilings still have the heavy wood beams that always seem to make a room warmer. There are two fireplaces in the villa that really see some action in the winter, especially when the evening drops chilly and you just want some wine and maybe a handful of friends telling stories. I always notice the brick arches whenever the afternoon sun comes splashing in. Something about the way the light moves in this house makes you slow down.
It is not all untouched history. The renovation was done carefully, mostly by locals who know what works here and what does not. The kitchen used to make bread for the village but now it is probably where you will want to try your own hand at fresh pasta or tossing together figs and cheese from the market. Bathrooms were designed by Riccardo Barthel, and you can tell someone really thought about them, because everything feels just right without being too much.
What really stays with you is the outside space. There is over a hectare of land, so plenty of room and no feeling of being boxed in. Ninety olive trees scatter the grounds and you do get the smell of lavender drift by sometimes, especially in late spring. There is an infinity pool tucked away, which feels more like a hidden lake when the light is soft. The pergola is white and bright, a spot where you can just sit out all afternoon and read, or lose track of time watching the sun shift. There are so many corners here, you and your friends could easily spread out for a lazy lunch that carries on into sunset, and you will get that unbelievable view of the San Gimignano towers glowing far across the fields.
The villa is split into three parts right now, but you can always make it one big home if that is your dream. One apartment is from the eighteen hundreds and is full of warm charm and has its own kitchen and fireside space. There is a small guest cottage that was once the wine cellar, now a cozy place for friends or maybe some help if you want that. Every bit has its own entrance with a small garden, so there is always privacy.
Even though you are right in the Florence countryside, everything is close. The best pizza spot, grocery shops, your morning coffee, all are just a short drive or cycle away. Neighbours here keep an eye out for each other but never get in your way. You still feel very much at peace but never isolated.
So many places look pretty online, but Villa Chianti Sunset is one you just have to walk through and feel for yourself. Whether you want calm mornings with coffee in hand or long evenings under the stars, it is waiting. If you have questions or you want to see it with your own eyes, reach out any time.
