Some places in New York really pull you in before you even say a word. When I stepped into this combined five bedroom apartment on the sixteenth floor at The Plaza, it was almost like you could feel the whole city through the windows. There's something about being right by Central Park that never gets old. The park just stretches out there and when the sun sets you get all those Manhattan building lights starting to twinkle. Honestly you might just stop your tour and watch for a few minutes, that is what I ended up doing.
You get so much space here it almost feels like a proper house set up above the trees. The layout comes from joining two apartments and you can tell right away this was done at a really high standard. There is a lovely wood paneled foyer right when you come in and I have to say it feels pretty grand but not in a showy way. Step through and everywhere is soft carpet underfoot, which is just nice early in the morning when you are walking to put on the kettle. You will notice the walls are mostly pale with some color here and there in the fabrics and pillows, so it all feels calm with just enough personality. It is easy on the eyes and after five minutes you kind of forget about your phone.
If you love to cook for real or have friends who do, the kitchens are separated and really well done. They are fully kitted out and honestly feel like the kind of kitchens that see weeknight spaghetti with the family as much as any big dinner party. The living and dining areas open up toward the windows and if you stand there in the morning, especially on a Sunday, you can hear the city coming alive but you are above the buzz. One of my favorite details is the fireplaces in the master suites, which just seems so rare in an apartment this high up. Sit out on one of the private balconies even in winter and you get that quiet city hum plus the view of the trees below and all those famous Manhattan rooftops fading off in the background.
Bedrooms here are not just for sleeping. You look out over Central Park or the city and suddenly you want to pick up a book or just sit by the window with coffee. Sunlight fills every corner so even rainy days have a bright side.
Being part of The Plaza means you get treated pretty well. There is a proper residential lobby and a doorman around the clock. I walked through the gardens downstairs and, honestly, the fountains and reflecting pools sort of take you out of the city for a bit. When you want to head out for dinner but do not want to go far, The Oak Room and the Rose Club are right there and both are places where people really linger over their food. If wellness is your thing you get access to the Guerlain Spa and the gym, which is helpful because Central Park walks are great but sometimes it is just too cold for a run. Plus, for those days when you just need a good coffee or want to try something different, Plaza Food Hall is a few steps away.
Little details keep surprising you here. Sometimes you catch families heading down for brunch, or you notice the way the skyline looks totally different when the seasons change. Life in Manhattan has its buzz of course, you will hear sirens off in the distance, but from up here it kind of feels like you have your own quiet patch above it all.
This apartment is more than just space, it is a feeling you get every time you walk in. The only way to really know is to come see it for yourself, to stand by those windows and take it all in. If you want to walk through or even just talk about what it is like living at The Plaza, I am here any time. At LuxuryProperty.com we just want you to feel at home with your next move.
