Some homes are just quieter than others even when you are right in Manhattan. This two bedroom apartment at 880 Fifth Avenue is the sort of place where you step inside and your shoulders drop. I actually found myself lingering near the living room windows because the southern light feels so warm and the view really slows you down for a second. There is this feeling here where New York is all around you but inside it is like you have a pause button.
You would not guess that this home on Fifth Avenue went through three years of careful renovation unless someone told you. Everything feels seamless. The American Walnut floors are the kind you want to walk barefoot on honestly and the marble wet bar looks like it was made for an evening with friends not just for show. They used only the good stuff throughout which you will notice when you touch the kitchen countertop or open the closet doors. Sometimes in these places you think oh maybe I would change something but here you just do not feel like that at all.
The primary bedroom has shades you can control with a remote which is just one of those things that ends up becoming necessary once you have it. The closets light up when you open them which sounds small but it makes getting ready early in the morning so much easier. The bathroom in here is onyx so you get that rare hotel feeling every day and the fixtures are top stuff from Artos Rohl and Dornbracht. It does not try too hard but honestly you can feel the quality when you walk barefoot across the floor tiles.
The second bedroom gets lots of natural light too but what surprised me most was how quiet it is. Even when there are sirens or city life going on outside you barely hear it. If you get guests often or you just like having a space for work this is the kind of room you look forward to using. The second bathroom matches the first in style with marble and good lighting so nobody gets jealous about who gets the better end.
Almost forgot the furniture. If you do not want to think about shipping sofas or finding the right dining table there is an option to buy it all fully furnished. Everything fits just right so you do not get that awkward empty wall feeling. If you like it just the way it is you can move in without changing a thing.
One of my favorite things about 880 Fifth Avenue is its history. This building was designed by Emery Roth back in the late forties and you can tell it never left the era of beautiful details. The lobby has that grand New York entrance feeling and if you appreciate architecture you will enjoy just walking around the building. There is a twenty four hour doorman someone always at the concierge and three attended elevators so you are never waiting long. Plus they really take care of the basics here. Parking is on site the gym has a proper yoga studio and pilates room which a lot of buildings miss. Laundry room and private storage are included too so you never have to think twice about space. One thing though if you have a dog it might not work for you but they do allow cats I have seen a few sunbathing in the windows.
Some people use this address as a full time home and others keep it as a relaxing recharging base in the city like a pied a terre. Whatever you have in mind it feels like both a practical apartment and a little daily retreat from Manhattan at its busiest. Fifth Avenue is all around you but morning walks in Central Park are just steps away and you never have to hunt for a good coffee spot or last minute groceries. Kids bike around here after school joggers pass by early in the morning and honestly sometimes the city just feels a little more friendly on this block.
