Some places just slow you down the second you walk in and this two bedroom duplex at Orchard Wharf in London Docklands does exactly that. For me it started in the lobby with that little hum of the city coming through the glass and then you get this feeling you are tucked away from it all once you step further inside. Makes you want to drop your bags and see the whole thing before you even sit down. The building itself is part of this new wave of riverside living in the E14 postcode so yes you are close to Canary Wharf and Royal Docks but you are not right on top of all the rush. You get energy without feeling overwhelmed. That is a nice balance if you ask me.
Let's talk about the apartment because honestly it surprised me with how much space it gives you to just be. The open plan living area is wide but never cold. If you like natural light then you will probably end up next to the window with a coffee most mornings. Full height glass lets in so much sun that you might forget what the London gloom can be like. Not to mention the views. You can actually look right out over the Docklands skyline and see different sides of the city waking up. It feels real and a little bit inspiring.
Bedrooms are bigger than what you sometimes find in Docklands and both have these floor to ceiling wardrobes. Plenty of storage without having to get clever about it. Carpets are that plush kind you actually want to walk barefoot on when you get back home after work or even before bed. And the master has this sense of calm. You really can just close the door and switch off here.
The kitchen is one of those spots you notice even if you do not think of yourself as a chef. Real Italian made appliances are fitted right in and the finish is just simple and clean. Tiles feel cool underfoot but never too cold. You might even want to cook for friends just because everything is set up so well. The bathrooms stand out too and they do not try too hard. Porcelain tiles, good water pressure, chrome touches. Sometimes you walk in and instantly know it will be a better start to your day. Or end it.
You have a private balcony where you can just sit with a book or even work from home if you can sneak away. Air feels good up there. In the evening you can catch the golden light moving over the river. It can be quiet even though the city is this close.
The community vibe at Orchard Wharf is a big plus. There is a daytime concierge who learns your routine after just a few days. The residents' lounge has people from all over and the coffee never runs out it seems. You can head down to the café for something fresh in the morning or if you want to have a chat with a neighbor. The rooftop terrace is where the sunset looks different every evening and honestly you have to see the gardens in person because photos do not do them justice. Kids sometimes run around in the courtyard if you are around after school hours. Shops and dining spots downstairs mean you do not have to walk far for dinner or to pick up something forgotten. Designer boutiques have a few window displays you might stop for every now and then.
Getting around is easy as you are just minutes from the Canary Wharf stations and links to the rest of London are all pretty close by. You kind of get the best of both worlds here. Peace when you want it and quick city access when you need it.
The only real way to know if this two bedroom duplex at Orchard Wharf fits you is to walk through it yourself. If something about it feels right or even if you just want to see the views at sunset let me know.
