Some places just have good energy right from the lift and honestly this one bedroom apartment in Maine Tower at Harbour Central feels like that. I remember the light as soon as I stepped off on the thirty eighth floor. There is something about seeing the City and Millwall Dock laid out beneath you that makes you pause for a second. The apartment itself feels open and airy which you do not always get in this part of Canary Wharf. You walk in and notice the walnut hardwood floors first or at least I did. They actually look even better in person and there is this mix of warm neutral colours and cool greys that just work together. I popped my head into every corner and did not catch one cookie cutter vibe. Each room has its own walnut veneered door for a bit of privacy but it still all flows together in that way you want for city living.
The living and dining space blends into each other which actually makes it easy to use this place for real life not just those property shoots you see in the brochures. I stood by the big windows for a while and you can watch the sun come up over the river if you are up early enough. In the evenings the lights across the city windows reflect against the water and it is honestly easy to lose track of time just hanging out on the sofa or out on the terrace. The terrace is honestly one of my favourite bits. It is big enough to take a deep breath and stretch out with a morning coffee or have a friend or two over with some pizza boxes. Pretty rare for a one bedroom to have that extra outdoor space up here.
The kitchen is actually somewhere you would want to cook more than just toast. All the appliances are Smeg so you get that premium feel but nothing feels showy or over the top. White and cool grey cabinets make it feel fresh and they have tucked away enough storage space that you do not need to leave anything out on the stone counter tops. I ran my fingers along the grey splashback and it is as smooth as it looks in the photos. You just get the sense that things have been designed to work for ordinary days as well as the Instagram moments.
Moving over to the bedroom it all feels softer. The oatmeal colour carpet is easy on your feet which you notice when you wake up before coffee. There is a wardrobe running floor to ceiling so you can fit all your London jackets and still have space for more. Even looked out the bedroom window to see what the light was like late in the day and it still felt cosy. The bath is just across the hall so you do not need to tiptoe far for a shower in the morning. Beige and white fittings feel new and fresh rather than being too much.
The building is the kind you hardly want to leave and actually you kind of do not need to. There is Club Maine which is right on the podium so you can wander down for a session at the gym or maybe try out Pilates if you feel like mixing things up. The spa downstairs has sauna and steam and there is even a treatment suite which seems like a nice perk for weekends. You get a private cinema room for movie nights and club lounges if you want to work or just hang out with a book. Some afternoons the cocktail bar comes to life and you see neighbours ending up there after work. If you are new to Canary Wharf or even London in general the concierge is round the clock and actually listens when you need something sorted.
Out and about you are close to the river and some of the best places to grab coffee in Canary Wharf are just a stroll away. Every cab and DLR train seems to pass nearby and on weekends you can walk down to the water or just people watch from the terrace. I have even seen folks out jogging over the footbridges just as the lights come on across London.
So here is the thing. This luxury one bedroom apartment in Maine Tower really is different. It is not just about everything being sparkling new or high spec but more about how it feels to stand inside with the city spreading out below you.
