Some homes feel like a deep breath when you walk in. Casa Serena in La Zagaleta really does that and I have to say the name fits it perfectly. There is this sense of calm the moment you step inside this five bedroom villa and see straight out over the valley. First time I went there, I just stood in the hallway for a minute listening to the quiet. It almost does not seem real that you are so close to Marbella and that the Costa del Sol is just down the road. Sometimes you even forget your phone because you just want to look outside. You get these wide views of soft green hills and the kind of sky that changes all the time. It is honestly a place for anyone who wants a luxury villa in Marbella where you feel miles away and still close to everything.
The space inside Casa Serena is something you feel before you even measure it out. The built up area is generous, about seven thousand seven hundred square feet, and yet it all feels easy. You walk through the living room and your eyes go straight to those tall windows with mountain views. It does not matter if you visit in summer or winter. There is always something beautiful going on outside. Every bedroom, and there are five, has its own bathroom. That just makes things simpler with family living or when you have friends over for the weekend. There is no morning lineup for the shower. I remember hearing birds from one of the garden windows one morning and it felt like being in the countryside. Sometimes you even get lucky and spot a deer in the trees.
And you know, people always ask about the pools. There are both indoor and outdoor swimming pools here. It sounds a little over the top, but actually it is just practical. If the sun is strong you can swim inside and still look out across the gardens. On cooler days the outdoor pool gets all that bright light and you can just float for a while, barely hearing a thing besides the breeze. Some owners like the wellness centre so much they skip their old gym. I can see why. Morning routines are simple when your gym and pool are right down the hall.
The kitchen is not just for show, either. Sometimes you walk into luxury properties and it feels like nobody ever really cooked in them. That is not the case here. There are big countertops so you can bake, chop, or just set out coffee and croissants if you feel like keeping it simple. The dining room blends straight into the living area. People chat while you cook. Dinner just stretches out into the evening with doors open to the outside and a bit of music. You also notice there are little corners in the gardens for reading, or just for having a coffee while the sun comes up. The original designer clearly paid attention to what people really enjoy.
The mountain views are one of those things you never get bored of. From just about every room you can see rolling hills and sometimes the mist hangs low in the early morning. At night the sunset comes right into the garden and fills everything with colour. Visitors always seem to comment on it. I know sometimes even the kids put down their phones just to watch the sky change.
Living in La Zagaleta is something different. This is not a regular Costa del Sol villa community. There is twenty four hour security everywhere so you always feel safe. It is really peaceful too. You might see kids on bikes heading down the trails after school or neighbours waving as they drive past. People gather at the private clubhouses for lunch or dinner or sometimes just a drink. If golf is your thing you have two championship courses here, and there is a serious equestrian centre too. Nature is all around. People talk about seeing pheasants or deer on evening walks. It just becomes normal.
And honestly, you are so close to Marbella and Puerto Banus when you want more action. Restaurants, night life or just the marina are all an easy drive. Malaga Airport is not far and that takes some stress out of travelling. Still, most days you might just want to stay put and soak up the rhythm of life at Casa Serena. There is fresh air up here and that is not something you get everywhere.
If this sounds a bit like what you are looking for, you should see Casa Serena for yourself. You never really know until you walk through and feel how it fits you.
