Sometimes you walk up to a place and everything just goes quiet for a second. That happened when I wandered up the little path to Palais Alinee in the Palmeraie part of Marrakech. Even if you have seen a lot of big villas before this palace really is something else. You can immediately feel the space around you. The garden just goes on and on and when I slowed down I noticed how the light falls across the pavilions and old olive trees. It is one of those homes where every part tells a story even before you walk inside.
On the outside the garden is just peaceful. There are spots to sit almost everywhere. You can find yourself under the shade near the caidale tent with fresh mint tea or stretch out in one of the outdoor lounges. Sometimes all you hear is birds hopping around. The solarium feels pretty perfect for a slow morning or even a lazy afternoon nap. And that pool is the kind where you actually want to swim not just dip your toes. I spotted an outdoor gym tucked off to the side near the water so you can pretty much work out surrounded by all that green. Not a bad way to start your day.
Inside Palais Alinee there is honestly more space than you might expect. You would not guess it at first but there are ten bedrooms altogether. Eight of those are in the main palace each one set up so differently but somehow all just as calm. The pavilion right in the heart of the garden has two more bedrooms and it feels almost like a guest house within the whole space. Maybe you use it when friends come to visit maybe it is for a little quiet time away from everything else.
The living rooms surprised me the most. They feel personal not formal. There is one large lounge that just quietly waits for people to read or talk and smaller spots where you could slip away for a private moment. You will notice plenty of light everywhere. Windows in all the right places. The kitchen looks like somewhere you might actually spend some time cooking or just chatting over coffee. It does not feel too precious to use.
You are definitely not giving up comfort here. There is a spa tucked away and the hammam is the real thing it feels good even just walking through. For those who love to entertain there is actually a private disco here and a sleek lounge and bar which is fun to discover. I remember thinking you could fill the place up with friends and still have quiet corners to yourself. Something about the scale of the place makes it easy to both host and relax. The palace is furnished and feels like somewhere people have loved for a while but it is all ready for your own touch too.
Living here in the Palmeraie you end up never feeling crowded. Orange groves and palm trees are the backdrop and honestly the outside world feels far away until you want to visit the center of Marrakech. Everything is close enough but at home things move slow. I noticed a few neighbors heading out on horses early in the morning and you can hear laughter from other gardens some evenings. The city's famous coffee shops and souks are always an easy drive when you feel like a little more buzz.
It is a lot of space and it is a lot of life but it just feels right. If you want to feel what a true Marrakech palace is like and see if it might fit I always say there is no better way than a visit.
