Some homes just take you by surprise. You walk in and your first thought is, wow, I could really live here. This villa up in Marshan at Tangier feels a bit like finding a secret lookout above the city. I mean you are about forty meters above the Mediterranean Sea so you get these proper wide open views that sweep from the Spanish coast around the Straits of Gibraltar and back to green hills. Sometimes the clouds sweep in and you just want to stand by the window for a bit to watch everything shift and change. It is easy to slow down in this part of Tangier. You notice birds dipping through the trees outside and there is this cool breeze you get when you pop open a window. It just feels miles from the busy parts of the city.
Inside the villa you can tell everything has been carefully thought about. The place has had a full renovation so you get this real comfort with all the privacy you could want. Not every home up here in El Borj Tanger feels this up to date or this easy to actually live in. There are four different levels to explore and every one feels like its own little world. Sometimes I wonder if you would even see everyone if you had a full family and guests staying. There is a proper master suite with so much storage you will barely fill it plus five more bedrooms that do not feel like extras at all. You will notice how nearly every room has a different view or something special going on. Even the bathrooms have nice bits of light and space so nothing feels boxed in.
You get so many places to sit back and relax. Three different living spaces make people spread out naturally. The dining room is made for long slow meals and talks that go on past dessert. The kitchen works for real cooking too. I actually stuck around in there one evening and the smell of spice and fresh coffee drifted everywhere. And if you like to read or need a work spot the library and study both get this good kind of hush. There is a home gym too and I met someone here who gets up with the sunrise just to work out by that view.
Outside is where quiet really finds you. The land here is almost seventy five thousand square feet so green and tucked among all this old vegetation. Some mornings you spot kids walking past and neighbours saying salam on the way into town. The pool is set back a little so swimming feels private even if there is a breeze. There are plenty of places with deep chairs and spots for a nap if the sun gets too much. I have seen families grilling together in the garden and the sound carries up almost all the way to the road. If you need space for staff or visitors you have three actual maids rooms that are tucked away nicely so it still feels homey and not too formal.
One of the cleverest things you will notice is how this place uses energy. Solar panels help keep everything running so you do not worry so much about bills or the planet. Security is top notch up here as well. And for anyone who really loves a bit of drama in their home there is an observation point up at the highest spot where you can see ships crossing and sometimes just follow the lights out to sea at night. Honestly it is more calming than you might expect.
The Marshan neighbourhood keeps quiet but the city is never far if you want café mornings or to hear some music at night. Most afternoons you hear birds in the trees and sometimes all you want to do is open a book instead of your phone.
Honestly though you can read a hundred descriptions and it is not the same as walking through yourself.
