Gorgeous Island Villa

Some homes just feel good the second you walk in, and this gorgeous island villa in Grand Bay, North Mauritius, really has that effect. I remember first wandering through the front door and just slowing down a bit without even meaning to. There is something about the way the light comes in, or maybe it is that breeze from the sea you notice right away. Honestly, you start imagining what it would be like to wake up here each morning, with this much space and a calm view right out to the water.

This is a five bedroom villa set right by the coast, and there is a really easy mix here of colonial style and new, modern touches. What I noticed wandering through the living areas was the way the solid rosewood floors catch the light, and those beamed ceilings just give each room a bit of character. The ground floor is where you have that relaxed sense of flow between the living and dining spaces, plus a proper fully fitted kitchen. And it actually feels like the sort of kitchen you would enjoy cooking in, not just looking nice for photos. Sometimes I find properties where all the kitchens look the same, but here you can see it is been thought through.

There is a guest bedroom set up with its own attached bathroom on the ground floor, which is clever if you have people staying a lot or just want a bit more space for visitors or family. There is even a powder room close by, tucked away but handy. If you wander upstairs, you will find four more bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, so mornings are pretty easy for everyone. Each bedroom has its own walk in closet too, and the master really stands out. You get this huge balcony with a sturdy fence around, so you can just lean on the railing for a while and watch the sea. I stood there for a good minute, just watching the clouds go by and listening to some birds arguing in a tree nearby. You get that proper island feel, and sometimes you almost forget you are indoors at all.

Downstairs again, there is even a basement with plenty of room for a games room or a family hangout space. I could see someone setting up a little cinema down there or just a spot for weekend ping pong tournaments. They have built in a wine cellar which is quite special, and there is all the practical stuff too, like a dedicated maid room, space for linens and extra storage, and it does not feel cramped at all.

Step outside and the first thing you will spot is the pool area. It really feels set up for relaxing afternoons, maybe with friends or just reading a book. I once sat on the wenge wood deck and watched the tiles glinting in the sun for a while. The covered verandah is honestly one of my favourite parts. You could easily throw together a weekend barbecue here or just spend long evenings with family as you watch the garden quiet down after sunset. The grass stays green, you see birds here and there, and sometimes you can catch the sea breeze bringing in that salty air. Kids could play, grownups can chat, or you just escape with a cup of coffee before anyone else wakes up.

Another thing about this part of North Mauritius is the sense of community you feel, either at the market or in the coffee shop which is not far away at all. The beaches in Grand Bay are never more than a short stroll, and honestly it is one of those rare spots where even errands feel less like chores. You will see people heading out for early runs or just walking dogs as the sun comes up.
