Some places just make you want to slow down a bit and take a breath. Santani Residences in Werapitiya, Kandy does that the moment you get here. It is the kind of spot where you actually remember to look out over the Dumbara Valley and realise how massive these tea estates really are. Everything feels quiet and green and there is a sort of gentle hush in the air that you notice even if you are not the type to sit still. The villas here give off that same peaceful vibe. There are only twenty two of them in total and each one sits a little apart from the next so you get a sense of privacy and space you do not always find at homes in Sri Lanka.
These are two bedroom villas and honestly they feel more like real homes than just getaway spots. When I walked through one of the Santani Residences I loved how the big windows just pull the outside right into the home. You can open up the terrace doors and suddenly you are standing on this huge deck looking out at green hills that go on forever. In the evening there is always a bit of a cool breeze that makes even a hot day feel almost refreshing. Some people leave the doors open and only realise hours later because the air just feels so fresh. You might even spot wild peacocks down below if you are around at the right time in the morning.
I have to mention the infinity pool. Every villa has its own and it is the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think for a while. Sometimes you even forget your phone until you need it for just one photo because the colours at sunset here can be a proper show. The woodwork stands out too. Nearly all the timber here is recycled which sort of fits how the whole area feels like it has always belonged to nature and they just found a clever way for people to tuck themselves in without taking over. You will see the villas are set up on stilts so you are never digging into the hillside and it is better for drainage too. More light and fresh air flow through so you usually find you do not even need the air conditioning half the time.
If you are after relaxation but also want real amenities it is all covered. The Santani Resort is next door and everyone from the residences has access. I stuck my head into the spa and it has these treatment rooms that overlook the entire valley. There is a proper gym too if you do not want to miss a workout. The restaurant sits right at the top of the hill and you can see for miles in every direction. Even if you are just grabbing coffee or reading in the library lounge it feels like you are tucked away somewhere no one will ever find you. It is definitely not your average collection of holiday homes. There is a real focus on wellness and gentle living that makes it stand out. Sustainability is just woven right through everything they do from how the wastewater gets recycled to how they built without cutting into the land.
You get privacy, but if you feel like being social you can head up to the restaurant or maybe catch a chat with other residents in the lounge. In the evenings you sometimes see staff wandering through the gardens and they will always stop for a hello and a chat if you feel like it. Werapitiya in Kandy is one of those corners of Sri Lanka where the pace is slower and you almost feel like you have stepped back in time. And the best thing is if you are ever bored of your own company the city lights and buzz of Kandy town are never too far off. It just feels easy to be here.
Honestly the only way to know if Santani Residences feels right for you is to walk through one of these villas and get a sense of the views and the mood for yourself. If you are thinking about it or just want to have a wander and ask questions you can reach out any time. Here at LuxuryProperty.com we just want your next move to feel as comfortable and natural as possible.
