Some homes really change the way you think about space and city living. This three bedroom apartment at 1 Central Park South in Manhattan is definitely one of those. I still remember the first time I walked in and saw the view looking over Central Park and the city it almost made me stop talking mid sentence. There is something about the light you get in here from those big windows that makes you feel like you are a part of New York right from the living room sofa.
The location here says it all. I mean you are right by Central Park. You just walk out and you are in the middle of Manhattan. Cafes restaurants bookstores galleries and of course the park itself are all around you. If you are someone who likes a morning jog or even just grabbing a coffee and people watching this feels like the center of it all. Sometimes in the afternoons I have seen families just sitting on benches outside laughing and tourists actually stopping in their tracks to take in the building.
Step inside and you get a sense of that classic Plaza energy. It is not just the address it is all the small design details. The entry foyer almost holds the apartment together splitting up the living spaces so it sort of feels like there is a flow to things. The doorknobs are made of brass and kind of heavy in your hand so you know it is real. There are mosaic tiles on the floors and even the fixtures remind you that you are in the Plaza Private Residences. It is those things you do not notice in a photo but in person you catch yourself looking more than once.
The living and dining space is open with those sweeping views of Central Park and the skyline. I found myself standing by the window longer than I meant to just watching the world go by. At night the lights are something else. With a view to the North and West you get all the changing moods of Manhattan from sunrise to sunset. The kitchen actually is set up for real cooking too not just warming up take out. It has stainless steel appliances from Viking and Miele so if you like to cook or even just want your morning eggs a certain way everything is here. The stone countertops feel cool to the touch and are striking with the white marble backsplash you might even catch yourself running your hand along them.
Bedrooms here are well sized. The master suite is really impressive it has a huge walk in closet that even someone with a big wardrobe will love. From the master you have a Juliet balcony which is rare and nice just to stand outside and breathe a bit of city air without having to go downstairs. The bathroom is all marble with a double vanity a big soaking tub and a separate shower. You can almost imagine winding down here every night with nowhere to rush off to. The second and third bedrooms each have their own bathrooms so guests or family have privacy. There is also a washer dryer right in the apartment so you do not have to worry about trips to the basement or hallway laundry.
The lifestyle at The Plaza Private Residences is its own thing. You have access to the hotel's full services which means things like a five star concierge the Oak Room and Bar the Palm Court and the Edwardian Room all close. There is a fitness center a day spa and even limousine service for when you want to slip out without a hassle. Sometimes you see people heading to an event in the Grand Ballroom or walking back from the private gardens looking just a little more relaxed.
It is hard to sum up how this place feels in just words. Sometimes you walk in and you just know.
