Fine Dining in Downtown Dubai

19 August 2018 Written by Staff Writer

This coming week, Dubai will be celebrating the festival of Eid Al Adha, which will be a very long weekend for most residents and an excellent opportunity to enjoy a night out with family friends. If you’re looking for just the right mix of fun and sophistication, Downtown Dubai is the place to go. This thriving district offers an excellent selection of five-star hotels by Michelin-starred chefs plus gorgeous views of the city skyline and the Burj Khalifa. Not to mention a delectable array of global cuisines.

1. At.mosphere

Rising 442 metres from the ground, At.mosphere, Burj Khalifa, sits on Level 122 of the world’s tallest building, complementing an exquisite array of gastronomical wonders with breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf. The world’s highest restaurant from ground level, this exclusive, award-winning fine dining venue boasts a critically acclaimed menu of exclusive creations, delighting visitors with its ambience, delectable food and impeccable service.

2. Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera

Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera is a 350 person restaurant and bar with external courtyard and sky garden for internationally acclaimed Chef Sean Connolly. This project in collaboration with Tribe Studio was an exploration into scale, texture and the sea. The project was spatially complex spanning 2000sqm of the upper level of the Dubai Opera and posed significant construction challenges. Utilising common materials to achieve uncommon outcomes, the project is conceived around the poetry of the oyster shell and the integrity of Sean’s cooking and ambition.

3. Katana

A katana is a Japanese sword characterized by a curved, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. Developed later than the tachi, it was used by samurai in feudal Japan and worn with the edge facing upward. Since the Muromachi period, many old tachi were cut from the root and shortened, and the blade at the root was crushed and converted into katana. The specific term for katana in Japan is uchigatana and the term katana often refers to single-edged swords from around the world.

4. Kohantei

Kohantei is the UAE’s only Japanese fine dining ‘Kaiseki’ experience.

Located in the heart of Downtown Dubai, our traditional Japanese restaurant serves up delicate and elegant dishes using the finest produce, personally sourced from Japan. We embody the centuries old tradition of Omotenashi – the spirit of Japanese hospitality – and offer our diners a multi-course menu, hand-crafted from the freshest seasonal ingredients.

We invite you to step into the heart of traditional Japan, where an inimitable, culinary oasis awaits. From the handmade and storied Japanese artwork adorning the walls, to the authentic sliding shoji doors and tatami flooring, our serene restaurant has been lovingly curated to provide a memorable experience that will last a lifetime.

With three private dining rooms and an exclusive banqueting area with five tables, Kohantei will take you on an intimate culinary journey that pays homage to the true essence of Japanese culture.

5. Jodhpur

Located in the heart of the city, Jodhpur, a nostalgic fine dining Indian restaurant was launched with a promise to bring back childhood memories for its visitors. Jodhpur recreates some of India's beloved dishes with multiple textures and the layering of flavours in the most coherent and clever way. At Jodhpur, we take all our diners on a retro-innovative journey with my food. Jodhpur pays a fitting homage with a very fresh take on the classic Indian dining experience, with dishes such as the faux Dal Makhani, which is made with the split green gram instead of the usual black lentils. On the other end of the spectrum you have the Malai Kofta Asparagus Tak-a-Tak, a spicy yet flavorful recreation of the classical dish.
