There are just some places that seem to slow you down as soon as you get out of the car. Villa Panorama near Florence really does that for me. Big skies overhead. The mountains in the distance remind you exactly where you are and give everything a quiet sort of presence that's hard to explain until you stand there for yourself. And the first thing I noticed was the old stone walls. They are not just for show. You can tell someone cared for this place over the years.
So you are only about twenty minutes from Florence, but honestly it feels like you are further into the Tuscan countryside than that. You drive up through classic rolling hills and by the time you reach the property's main gate, you start to notice the air smells a little different. Fresher. I guess that is partly because there are olive trees everywhere and vineyards surrounding parts of the land. More than five hectares of grapes and two full hectares of olives, which is not just for looking at. They are still working and producing, which is something you do not see every day. At least two of the mornings I have been out here, I saw folks picking or tending the vines, and as odd as it sounds, it's a little calming.
The estate is actually a collection of buildings. There is the main villa, then around it you will find a beautifully refurbished barn, an old stable that's now a sauna (yes, really), and another annex tucked off to the side. The villa itself is just as you would hope from a proper Tuscan country house. Exposed stonework, original terra cotta floors that feel warm under your bare feet even on cooler mornings, and those wooden beamed ceilings you see in magazines. The ground floor of the main house is where I imagine people gather most. You have three bedrooms there, a large kitchen that really feels like something you would want to try your hand at some real Italian cooking, and a living room that just works for family or friends. Upstairs is divided up into four separate apartments, each one private with its own bathroom. Honestly, it gives you a lot of flexibility. Big group visiting or relatives coming in or even if you wanted to do a little guest hosting, there is more than enough room. What is even more special is the tower that makes up the top floor. Walk up, and you will find a cantina and a wine cellar. They are kind of hidden until you know where to look and really fun to show off when people visit. The barn has just been redone so it looks fresh inside but still has its old bones showing. Two separate apartments, again both with their own bathrooms, and they feel comfortable more than fancy. The stable as I mentioned has been made into a sauna which, if you like that sort of thing, is a rarity out here. Then there is another small apartment, one bedroom, another kitchen, living area and a bathroom. There is a sense that all the spaces have their own little rhythm, which helps if you have different people staying or just want a bit of quiet for yourself.
Outside, you get the best of Tuscany pretty much every day. The gardens are looked after but not fussy, so it is easy to imagine kids running around or everyone sitting outside for long summer dinners. The patio is paved and set up for outdoor seating, so lots of lazy breakfasts, plus there is a classic swimming pool that feels like it is tucked into its own private patch of green. Sometimes you catch a breeze from the mountains and it is just about perfect.
The property is pretty big overall, but you are not isolated. People wave when you drive through the community, and if you do want to pop into Florence for a coffee or a meal out, it is an easy trip. For anyone who loves mountain views and the lifestyle Tuscany is known for, Villa Panorama is more than worth a walk through. Honestly, the only way to know if it feels like the right fit is to come and see it with your own eyes.
