Some homes slow you down in the best way as soon as you step up to the gate. This five bedroom villa on Elm Tree Road in St Johns Wood is exactly like that. The street itself is tucked away and honestly it feels like you are miles from the city even though you are in the heart of London. I noticed right off that you can hear the birds more than traffic and the trees on both sides actually rustle a bit when the wind picks up. There's something a little storybook about it especially as the sun comes through the leaves.

Walking in, you follow this tree lined path and suddenly there's this really classic country house facade with old brick and ivy peeking around the edges. The inside is just as welcoming. The reception hall is big enough that you hardly notice your suitcase or groceries. It has a calm cream toned interior that just makes you want to pause and take a breath. I just stopped for a second and let the light in from the big windows hit me. With the ceiling up high and everything so spacious it feels like old England but lighter and easier. The drawing room still has that period character but the seats are genuinely comfortable, not just for show. On my last visit I actually stretched out and almost forgot how much I love to move around.

Follow the corridor and you find a sun kissed kitchen. It looks like a place where you would actually cook family meals. You will notice how you could spend a lazy Saturday morning here with the coffee brewing and the windows open. The dining room off to the side has a sort of Elizabethan feel to it, the kind where you could have friends over for Sunday lunch and not stress about anything. There is a boot room and some storage at the back. I dropped my bag there without thinking. I always notice the small things like that a comfortable spot for your shoes and jackets somehow matters more than it should.

Upstairs is where it gets interesting, especially if you have a family or regular visitors. The five bedrooms all feel generous none of those extra tiny ones that only get used for luggage or old coats. The master suite sticks in my mind, partly because the dressing room just makes sense. Sometimes luxury is not about the shine but about space that really works. The attached study is great too for anyone doing a bit of work from home. You will also appreciate the extra en suite in the second biggest bedroom. It is just more convenient for guests or an older child who wants more privacy.

The garden is honestly my favorite spot. Step outside through the back doors and you are right in a mature garden that almost feels secret. Tall hedges give you loads of privacy. The grass is soft enough to walk on in bare feet and the greenery around the edges keeps it cool even when the weather is warm. I've seen robins darting about and once or twice some kids from next door playing on bikes in the afternoons. The skyline view actually surprised me the first time, with the city just poking over the treetops. If you ever want to entertain outside or let your dog run free, this space is ready.

There is a separate garage tucked at the corner of the property. Handy if you do have a car, but honestly, coffee shops and the little grocery on the high street are close enough to just stroll. Lords Cricket Ground is practically around the corner too, so weekends can look a bit different here whether you like matches or just that local buzz.

You can tell the house has been loved and looked after for decades. It feels both stately and easy, not too formal. The community in St Johns Wood is one where faces start to look familiar fast, and I have to say, it feels safe letting kids or pets out here. The only real way to know if this villa is right for you is to come see it and just breathe it in for a while.
