How You Can Anchor in Dubai Waters

To obtain a sailing permit in Dubai, you first have to provide the necessary documents to the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), who in turn issues a temporary sailing permit while the process is ongoing. If required, DMCA coordinates with Dubai Customs for a vessel inspection or with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) for VIP services, or your agent can directly visit GDRFA. Once all requirements are met and permit fees are paid, DMCA issues the final sailing permit, which remains valid for six months.

Foreign Visiting Yachts wishing to anchor in Dubai waters for up to six months must observe the following guidelines:

  • Avoid restricted areas, beaches, islands, and other vessels.
  • Seek permission from the owner/manager of privately owned/managed areas before engaging in any marine activity or anchoring.
  • Owners/Agents/Operators of Foreign Visiting Yachts are permitted to anchor anywhere in Dubai Waters and must inform DMCA of their latitude/longitude position and duration via email or SMS.

Dubai offers abundant opportunities to embark on a sailing adventure. With over twenty marinas, four hundred yachts, and 3,600 berths, you will have no trouble finding a beautiful vessel to set sail and enjoy a superb sunset. Many private docks await your vessel's arrival, while an array of marinas provide long-term docking options.

Dubai is a city that is constantly reinventing itself, and its yachting community is no different. It is not just about being on the water. It is also about being part of a growing community of people who love to sail.

Happy sailing!
