Some places actually do make you stop for a second when you walk in, and honestly, this penthouse on Bondi Beach did that for me. I remember stepping over the threshold at 8 Notts Avenue, just a little bit distracted by the way the sunlight comes streaming straight in and how you can stand almost anywhere and see the sea. The air is different here. Softer somehow. You can hear the ocean sometimes if you leave a window open, and I guess that's part of why it all feels a bit lighter.
It is a proper home with three bedrooms and plenty of space to spread out. We are talking about five thousand seven hundred and six square feet, which, if you know Bondi, is pretty rare. Walking through the place, the first thing you'll notice is the style. The designers went with a very striking black and white look. The effect is honestly a little cinematic—marble, deep cabinets, glossy accents—the whole lot. But even with all that, nothing really feels cold or too precious. I spent a while standing in the kitchen, looking at the marble breakfast counter and thinking about how easily you could have people around, pour coffee, or just sit and catch the morning news. All the appliances are those professional level ones that cooking people actually like. It feels like a kitchen you would use, not just stare at.
The living room is something else. The windows stretch floor to ceiling, and you get that full coastline view. If you are standing here late afternoon, the sun throws long lines across the floor and you just find yourself drifting toward the glass, watching the blue outside. I even noticed little windows higher up on the walls, so the whole space gets bathed in daylight no matter what. There's a coffee shop just down the road if you want to wander out barefoot in the morning. Sometimes you see surfers jogging past with their boards. Everything feels kind of alive.
Bedrooms here are more like retreats. They all come with those lovely ensuite bathrooms that are full on marble, and really cool built in wardrobes with a dark finish so tidying up feels a little bit more grown up. You actually want to put things away. At night, I thought it got unbelievably quiet despite being close to all the energy of Bondi. You could open the curtains a crack and catch a bit of the moon on the waves, then close it all back up and be in this private little world.
One detail I want to mention—the private garage downstairs is not like any I have seen in Sydney. This is a kind of bonus room. You could set it up to host friends, throw a celebration, or even just create a hideaway to read. There is enough space to really imagine it being whatever you need. Even on the busiest days the building itself always feels tucked away. Some kids from the community like to bike past in the evenings when things slow down, and it is actually nice to see.
Living on Bondi Beach, you do get the best of it. The energy outside, the calm inside, and the whole place feels balanced. Things are convenient too—the local shops and cafés are a short walk. It is easy to pick up something for dinner and head home before the sky changes color over the water.
I think you have to feel this penthouse for yourself to know if it is right. Sometimes a place just gives you that sense of being where you belong.
