Best Ways to spend New Year in Dubai

Written by Arpan Ghosh

We are about to bid farewell to a rollercoaster of a year, and everyone has earned themselves a bit of a celebration at this point. You could opt for something low-key, spending time at home with loved ones. Or if you prefer something more grand, then Dubai has a plethora of options to brighten up your New Year’s Eve.

Celebrate on the waterfront

When you’re in one of the world’s most famous coastal cities, why not spend New Year’s Eve by the water? Palm Jumeirah has its own vibrant fireworks show taking place at the Atlantis, and is also home to the world’s largest fountain show (at The Pointe Mall). You also have the trio of La Mer, Al Seef and Bluewaters Island, each of which offers a unique ambience. They will be hosting festive markets, will have plenty of activities for children, and all of them have perfect views of the fireworks - La Mer and Al Seef look out over Downtown Dubai, while Bluewaters Island is just across the water from the Palm.

Go for a cruise

If you’d rather be on the water than beside it, then you can book yourself a dinner cruise or a yacht party. For those who want to enjoy a historic quarter of Dubai, there are cruises over the iconic Dubai Creek. If you would rather be amongst the glitz and glamour of the city’s luxury districts, then there are cruises and yacht rentals at the Dubai Marina. Both options give you some great food, a relaxed atmosphere and some very awe-inspiring views over the water.

Head to the desert

Looking for something a bit out of the way? Then you can plan a desert camping or safari trip for New Year’s. Spend your day dune bashing and exploring the sands, then enjoy a traditional bedouin-style experience at night over a roaring fire, with belly dancing, plenty of grills, and various other activities. If you prefer your desert experience to be a bit more upscale, then there is the famous Bab Al Shams Desert Resort, which will have a grand New Year’s celebration that combines the local landscape with five-star trimmings.

Take to the skies

Take in all of the New Year festivities from a different perspective this year by going airborne. You can book helicopter tours over the Palm and the Marina, where you will get to see the glittering city lights like never before. Or you can dive into the year head-on by booking a skydive over Palm Jumeirah, getting a breathtaking view of the festivities below you as you drop from the sky. It’s a bold way to end the year, and will undoubtedly be a more unique memory than just another New Year’s party.

Enjoy dinner and a show

That being said, there’s certainly nothing wrong with a New Year’s party or a lavish dinner. And in a gastronomic haven like Dubai, you have your pick of options. Whether it is in the heart of Downtown, on the beachfront, in the centre of Old Dubai or across one of the city’s expansive private residential communities, there is a grand dinner event to suit your tastes. You could enjoy a lavish multi-course menu, go for a casual sharing meal with friends, or simply enjoy some drinks and canapes. As long as you get to eat with some good company.

See the fireworks from your balcony

Perhaps you are looking for something a bit simpler, though. The New Year doesn’t have to be a grand event as long as you can make it memorable in your own way, such as spending time with friends and family at home. And the right home can give you an incredible view over the New Year’s fireworks, which you can enjoy from the comfort of your living room or terrace. Whether it’s a serviced residence in Downtown Dubai, a penthouse in the Marina or a cosy family villa in Dubai Hills Estate, we can help you find the perfect home to make your New Year’s Eve special.
