Villa Vita Bella, Arezzo
Some homes have a quiet way of slowing you down right from the start. Walking up to this five bedroom villa in Villa Vita Bella just outside Cortona made me pause a bit longer than I usually do. There is something about this spot in Arezzo that feels lived in and real not flashy just honest. The sweeping view is the first thing you notice and honestly it just keeps getting better as you get closer. All around you see the soft lines of Tuscan hills and there are more than six hundred olive trees right on the grounds. They catch that perfect morning light and you almost find yourself waking up earlier just to catch it.
The air here actually feels different softer maybe fuller with the scent of lavender and the sound of little birds moving from tree to tree. You can wander the three and a half hectares around the property and never really see anyone else unless you want to. That sense of privacy is hard to find especially so close to good coffee and local shops in Cortona. I walked around early in the morning once and just heard church bells in the distance. Even with all that land you never feel lost or cut off.
This villa is a piece of real Tuscan history stretching back to the seventeenth century but nothing about it is dated or tired. Timeless is probably a better word. You have three buildings on the estate the main villa which is full of light and open rooms plus the limonaia which has laundry and storage now but could be almost anything a studio or quiet work spot. There is an old chapel right on the property too. I stepped inside and you can actually sense how many years it has seen. The garage is tucked away so all the practical stuff feels sorted and out of sight.
Step inside the front door and the space just greets you. The welcome hall has this measured sunlight that makes the whole entry feel warm. Kitchens get talked about a lot but this one is actually laid out for cooking with people not just looking pretty. You get two Miele dishwashers which probably means less waiting around after dinners plus a Sub Zero fridge and a Thermador stove that is all about slower meals and real ingredients. I kept thinking how much better food tastes with olive oil that basically comes from right outside your door.
The living room stretches out and just breathes its not cramped or formal. You look out big windows and the hills just pull your eye farther out. There is a dining room inside for those times when it cools down but the truth is you will want to eat on the terrace most days. I sat there for a bit and forgot about my phone altogether. One of the bedrooms is set up on the ground floor with its own bath perfect for visitors or anyone who does not want to climb stairs every day.
Upstairs you find four more bedrooms each with their own details. The one with the private terrace is a real retreat. I stood there as the sun went down and it got so quiet you could actually hear the countryside settling in for the night. There is a mix of old wood beams and cotto tiles and that just gives every room a solid grounded feel.
The gardens are actually looked after not just for show. Lavender spills along some of the paths and the olive trees flow pretty much everywhere you look. The pool is just the right size for a serious swim or a lazy float and the little lounge area by it feels made for slow afternoons. Some days you hear locals heading home from the fields sometimes just birds and wind.
This place works for a full time family home or a holiday escape where everyone finds their own corner to relax. Arezzo is nearby and you get coffee or fresh bread anytime you like. Cortona has those classic restaurants never too far to drive. The only way to get the real feel of this villa is to walk it yourself and take your time.
