Christmas in Dubai may not be a snow-filled affair as it is shown in mainstream media, but there are still plenty of exciting activities that one can partake in during the festive season. Almost every brand and entertainment venue offers exclusive discounts and Christmas-themed product lines. So, with Halloween out of the way, here’s all you need to know about Christmas; plus ways to celebrate it with the right degree of pomp.

The Weather


Like always, Christmas falls in the chilly month of December, meaning Dubai residents can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities in pleasant weather conditions. With clear skies and a moderate breeze sweeping across the city, one can head to the beach or go to outdoor attractions; such as, the Global Village, Miracle Garden or dine in an upscale eatery. The average high during the month of December would be around 26˚C during day-time and 18˚C in the evening.

For Christmas, the adventureland would be adorned in the colours of the festival. Expect to see large, colourful Christmas trees and Santa bringing presents to kids. Furthermore, you can get up and close with the most adorable creatures from the animal kingdom - the penguins. Watch them flap their wings and hop around in their natural habitat.

Shopping at The Madinat Jumeirah Festive Market

The Madinat Jumeirah Market is a festive market located in Jumeirah. Every year during December, the venue transforms into a Christmas market with shopping carts, Christmas lights, Santa and jingle bells all around. Like previous years, a large, 35-meter Christmas tree would be erected to take selfies with. Moreover, there would be festive food, wine, gingerbread treats, snow play areas, live music, santa on a sleigh and more.

Get Cosy at the Irish Village

The Irish Village is one of the classiest places to be at during the festive season, and for this year’s Christmas, the venue has already started taking reservations. The pub is famous for its exquisite European delicacies in a calm and casual atmosphere. The entire village has a very communal atmosphere, with live music being played, and sellers offering souvenirs and unique merchandise on every stall. For Christmas, expect the village to introduce Irish whiskeys and some mouth-watering Irish stews to keep your hunger at bay. Located in Garhoud, the village also has tranquil views of the lake and landscaped lands to enhance the Christmas experience.

Like with previous years, expect to see a host of food stalls, Christmas trees, as well as private cabanas for those who want to have a Christmas-inspired meal in privacy.

Furthemore, the adjoining Dubai Mall has more than 1,200 retail shops that feature Christmas souvenirs and special festive discounts. You can also go to the Dubai Aquarium and the Underwater Zoo that features over 33,000 marine animals from 140 species.

For Christmas, expect to see plenty of trees, Christmas-inspired treats, and sand boards to launch from the highest of dunes. Wait for the sun to set to capture ethereal moments with your loved ones. You can even take off in one of the hot air balloons above the vast desert landscape. A trip to the desert will be a different but exhilarating experience.
